Hello Everyone!

I know long time no talk....Please forgive me. I hope you are all well and thriving.

My father is actually home. Can you believe it? We can't either but that has taken up every spare minute of my time. I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to end healing and prayers to my father. Thank you.

I have a few second to myself.....lol


I was just put n Topiramate August 26th and was wondering if anyone else has experienced blurry vision and tingling in the fingers.

Hi Leila & welcome back. I am shocked to read that your dad is at home now. Wow, I am sure that the family is just elated over this happening. I truly did not think he would be home again. What awesome news.

So, health wise & other than being put on the above medication how are you doing? Its been a bit but wasn't they trying to find a PM dr to refer you to? It seems one was found & you saw him only to be told he did not take WC people which put you back at square one. Or, am I confusing you with someone else, highly possible lol. I am having huge computer issues this morning & having a lot of trouble getting around HW. Earlier I was not able to post here, so I don't know if its the site or my laptop. I was going to use the search feature above & see what I can pull up on Topamax but I am not able to access it. The problems you are experiencing, have you checked with the pharmacist to see if these are the usual side effects & will they subside fairly soon or what? You can also go to Drugs.com & read up on the side effects.

Hi, yes I had the tingling hands bad when I started this med. I also could sit and watch my thumbs tremble. Can't recall the blurry vision as I have been taking it for many years.

Leila, that's great about your Dad being home.

Both those side effects, particularly the tingling hands, are very common with Topiramate. But do keep a watch (pardon the pun) on the vision issues...it can and does cause out & out blurry vision that is annoying but otherwise completely benign, but it might be an idea to get your eye pressure checked (especially if you've also got any eye pain, redness or other problems to go with the blurred vision) as topamax is also known to cause acute glaucoma.

Thank you girls for responding.....

My father being home after 83 days being in the hospital with a punctured lung and being on life support three times is an out and out miracle. Because only God knows how he survived that. In fact I actually told him, "Old man, someone up there doesn't believe it is your time to go" We have been very busy getting him organized and settled with insurance, equipment, etc. We received no help from the VA. It's been a long haul.

So much to catch up on Susie... you are right they were looking for a PM doc for me during all of this process with my dad going on. I finally landed on the third doctor they suggested (someone my WC can't stand lucky me).

Thank you Tracey for letting me know about the tingling.

Laura I appreciate the warning about the glaucoma. I have enough eye issues as it is without worrying about that. I'll be very careful with this for sure.

He has me on Lyrica, Celebrex and now added Topiramate. Stellate Ganglion Block on Sept 16th.... On Tuesday I am going to request that the WC allow me to have an appointment with my hematologist prior to allowing this to happen due to my blood disorder.... this can cause paralysis.

That is I think may be all but I can't be sure..

How are all of you? Now I need to be caught up!

Getting caught up would take hours so I will just say I'm about the same, my daughter has been confirmd for Cushing's and will be having surgery in the next few months. I'm gonna be a grandma again, thanks to my son. That's about all I will squeeze into the nutshell for the moment. My computer is acting up.

My vision was also effected when I was on Topamax, although my eyes tend to be very sensitive to medications. I don't remember any paraesthesia, but it was quite a few years ago now. Topamax didn't help me much, so between the poor efficacy and side effects, I wasn't on it for too long.

Congrats on your dad coming home. That is great news! And good luck with your stellate ganglion block. I've had several of those myself. It was always a weird feeling dealing with the Horner's syndrome for the first few hours after the block. But it came in handy during my first year of veterinary school, when I was the only student in the class who knew what Horner's was and how to recognize it! smilewinkgrin

Pitmommmmmm I have also missed you a great deal. I miss hearing about our garden, yard pets etc. I was so busy with my father and mother's issues (divorced of course so not in the same town ppftt) I have not been able to sit down and chat. I am torn to hear about your daughter. I am glad they have finally found the issue but sad she has Cushing. I am glad that she will be able to get this taken care of xxx Blessings and love to her and her doctors.. xx A Grandma again!!!! That is awesome! Congratulations!!! I can't wait to catch up!

Skeye, Topimate was horrible for me. I had the same vision issues where I had to use my second lens on my trifocals for the computer as my distance lens. I also was not sweating.... it was 104 degrees and I didn't even sweat.... and I had horrible mood swings.. so bad my husband went to the doc and said I turned into another person. Thank you for the congrats on Dad..... I can't even believe he is home.

They are not doing the stellate ganglion block because of my blood disorder..... another disappointment. rofl on your Horner's knowledge, how crummy to learn about it but good that you knew for school

Wow Leila, you've had a lot going on! It's been crazy at my house. We had the unfortunate experience of a bed bug infestation over the summer. What a nightmare! We're still clearing up from it. Replaced a lot of furniture, have to wash everything, etc. Most of my stuff was out on the patio and lawn. The grass is dead, the garden suffered from neglect and drought. I did make sure to water the veggies though! Pretty good harvest. I'm so glad that most of my flower garden is comprised of native plants. I still had quite a bit of good flowering, just not a good view! Too much stuff piled up in front of it all!

The sunflowers continue to bloom, just smaller flowers. The gold finches are slowly being replaced by black capped chickadees. There is a big fat cardinal that has been coming for the purple cone flower seeds! My ornamental grasses are sending up their plumes which shimmer as they catch the sunlight. I hope to get some mums and ornamental kale to pretty it all up again for fall.

Wow that stinks the bedbug thing...... not a good way to get new furniture or bedding lol next time just find me and I'll give you better ideas... I'm sorry. What a pain.

I am glad that the veggies and local plants are doing well, that is good to hear. Over here in California our lawn is dead brown due to the drought....... the roses are holding out but some of the other plants are suffering... We are trying to get ready for heavy rains this summer and hope they won't cause flooding... French drains are being placed in the backyard by hubby and friends. we are discussing where to place sandbags come October. We are looking into flood insurance. Being prepared is important.

I know fall is here...... but daily there are several flying v's of geese heading south. That worries me that winter will come sooner than later. The animals always know lol

Hopefully your lawn is just dormant and not dead. We are in drought also here in New Jersey. Some towns have started water restrictions.

I usually do fall crops but, not this year. Still not finished with all of the clean up here. I tossed 3 cabinets and have to figure out where to put the stuff that was in them! Edit, edit, edit!

I also 'lost' about 4ft x 7ft from my living room by curtaining off a portion of it to make a 'room' for my grandson. He's 14 now and should not be sharing a room with his mother! Puberty is upon him and he needs his own space! Wish we could afford to move into a 3 bedroom, but it's not in the budget!

2 shower curtains, a bunch of push pins and cup hooks, a 'roll away cot' and voila! A 3rd bedroom! Now, we just need another small t.v. so he can hook up his x-box and he is all set. I plan to put up some shelves to hold his things, his dresser can remain in Margie's room. He's a night owl and I'm an early bird, so he will have his privacy. He can sleep through just about anything so my early morning routine shouldn't be a bother to him. We shall see.

I think the lawn is dead, dead, dead... it has been four years now and our water restrictions are in place full force..... we are back to "if it's yellow let it mellow, etc". We are washing dishes in dishpans and using the water to water what plants we can. They are saying that we will have an "El Nino" again this year. Last one was in the 80's and it flooded. I am hoping that the drains are dug before that hits. The last three days have been 90+ which is not usual for this late in September. I sure hope your drought doesn't last as long or become as sever as ours. It feels like most of California is on fire. Sometimes when the wind is blowing just right, the entire city is filled with smoke from a fire three hours away. People have lost everything. It is so sad to see them return to ashes. I pray for them and their pets daily. The amount of missing and displaced pets is staggering right now.

Good for you being creative with the living room! I agree with you and the privacy at 14, especially for a young boy and mother. She needs her privacy as well. Most teens can sleep through anything lol. I remember those days but sure can't seem to make them happen now lol.

I got two new meds last week from the PM but I can't fill them till the 23rd. Trazodone 50mg and Burtrans 5mcg/hr patch. We'll see how this going to work. They are also trying to schedule a new MRI with dye contrast. Hopefully that will show something but WC has to approve it all of course.

I am sorry to hear about no fall garden because I know you love to be out there. You will have to concentrate on something else.... At leas you will have a few things to do, clean aka edit (eww lol). I am stuck in the same situation with the yard now. We didn't even put up the typical tent's where we sit and eat this year due to the dead back yard it isn't even nice to sit in anymore. Plus digging up the ditches for the French drains... mess. The end result will be no flood in the yard, that's good.

Went shopping for mums and maybe some scarecrows to freshen things up outside. Got the mums, no problem. The scarecrows though, ridiculous price for the flimsiest crud! So, stopped at the dollar store and got creative when I got home...

Hollow Styrofoam pumpkins for heads, half circle of florist foam to shape the shoulders, floral pick to create the arms (each 'hand' is a 'bouquet'), cut up a 'fall' dishtowel and used half for the 'shirt', (shoved the floral pick through the half circle florist foam, through the towel, into the bottom of the pumpkin) then, cut up another dish towel to make legs, stuffed them with plastic shopping bags, made jute 'pom poms' for the 'feet', secured with garden wire, and wired it all to a garden post.

Now, there are 8 little scarecrows standing guard over the newly planted mums!

I just had to stop taking Topomax for the same reasons. Went to an eye doc and there was pressure building in my eyes, which can apparently lead to permanent vision problems. Luckily my symptoms went away when I stopped, I'm to use eye drops for 3 months to be sure. Going to start ZONISAMIDE which neuro says is topomax's "sister" but with no side effects.

I wouldn't ignore the vision problems too long.

I had to stop it completely due to the fact that I was not sweating at all in 100 degree weather, I was aggressive (I even pushed my daughter! OMG), I had severe vision issues (have a eye doc apt November 3rd) and I it affected my personality in a horrible way. I am glad you were able to get off of this medication quickly. It was for sure not a good match for me personally.

They are not going to try Butrans 5 patch starting Oct 23rd and they will pair that with Trazadone 50 mg for sleep.

I am on Lyrica and Celebrex already.

I'd love to hear how the Zonisamide will work for you. I have not heard of that particular medication.... yet lol. I sure do hope that it works out for you.

Please keep me up to date on this new med. I'd love to hear your personal results.
