gut dryness, can't hydrate water in gut, inflamed intestines, chickenpox, lots pain. help!

My mother is 51 years old.
she has had digestive issues for three years.
this year is worse. she got the chickenpox this year in jan.
her digestive tract has gotten much worse.
yes we been to doctors no help!
after the chickenpox left her, upper stomach had got tight, dryness feeling inside, skin dry, throat dry, mouth dry. foamy stomach and mouth, more acidty stomach, sides of her large intestine swells out when they go inflamed and same time her middle lower stomach sinks in tight. can some explain about that?? doctors don't!!
she drinks lots of clean water. we tryed spring water, mineral water, watermelon, salt and sugar water for the fluids to draw back in her gut and mucus membranes.
she try to even take vitamins like she did three years ago but now they inflame her colon and tightins her stomach, yes she takes them with food. she can not eat veggies and fiber she will end up in the hospital if i give them to her.
vitamin A she can not take no more, it inflames her colon and a week later when she pees, this stuff comes out of her vagina hole that smells just like the vitamin A i gave her. beta carotene does the same.
i don't care if that part sounds weird to some people but i was there and saw it. did not do that ever in her life, she could take vitamins before chickenpox came and destroy her health.
PPIs and H2 blockers do not help just make her dryer more on her skin and gut.
she has been getting saline IV drip, it cause her colon pains and the saline gave her bruises all over her body. never did before.
yes the fluid in the saline hydrated her but she can not take the stuff.
after the fluid did not last long in her, got more dryer and colon more inflamed.
shes unable to eat a piece of plain toast without the pain goes up in inflames.
she has never throw up or had diarriah until the doctor gave her carefate last july, threw up and inflamed her gut more.
she has been to doctors and hospitals thousands a times this year, all they tell her is it's not happening and take more ppis.
sodium levels and potassium went low after chickenpox and they never went back up no matter how we try to give her the minerals that don't work.
she can not even have calcium carbonate powder anymore it bloats and twist tight upper gut.
again never did that before the virus.
can not take magnesium oxide either does the anything.
magnesium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate don't seem to help ease the pain just made her stomach more acidty, yes had them with food she can barley eat.
they broke her face out bad.

two months ago she got blood test done and shows her IGG called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae range 0-20 but it was 39!
another blood test check for candida normal levels 0-28 but it's 31 high!
doctor did not give anything for her on that.

she did develope stomach pains bad 13 years ago. few days later this whitish stuff came from on her on toenail bed and spread. i was told that she had a yease attack then.

every information i gave you about my mother's issue going real bad this year in so in pain from it.
shes 85 pounds because all of it.
can you tell me that did the chickenpox virus damage something in her gut tract is the reason why she is having these issues like can not draw fluid in her gut and body anymore??
please need to know soon.

im sorry for the long story but thats the way it has been and it's been hell for her.
doctors has been no help for her. take my word.

Welcome Jen to the CP forum and I am sorry for all that your Mom's going through. UC forum would probably been a good place to ask that question and I will pop over there and ask them if they would come take a look at your post. If you don't mind me asking where do you and your Mom live? It seems though Doctors are pretty much the same wherever you are. The chicken pox virus for an adult can be very detrimental to your health as an adult and I am not sure if the virus is or would be the exact cause of all your Mom's issues but it is likely responsible for some. The untreated candida could also be a problem.

Hopefully someone from UC will be able to tell you more.

Sorry for all the suffering....
Is it possible your mother has stomach ulcers? From h pylori bacteria?
Has she had an endoscopy or colonoscopy done?

She needs nutrition, so if she cannot eat then you can try some bone broth or chicken soup. There are also meal replacement drinks (like Ensure) which are easy to digest.

I hope you get some answers, good luck

I'm so sorry to hear that your mother is doing poorly. But I also second the question - has she ever had scopes?

Where are you from? If not in the states or the UK, is it possible for you and your mother to travel to see other doctors?

is it possible your mom can get nutrition from TPN as it totally bypasses the digestive tract
its short for Total Parenteral Nutrition
its basically nutrients that are given intravenously
I suggest you go to a very good hospital I am thinking of mayoclinic in rochester specifically as they are a top hospital but are also used to dealing with different and unusual cases
I dont know where you live so I am not sure if that is possible
but if you share your location maybe people can make recommendations nearby

at her current state I am shocked she is not hospitalized so I question the doctors who are treating her

she don't have h.pylori she was check.
it's impossible for her to have nutritions when her gut will not take them.
we live in anderson california.
i read that a woman got chickenpox and got crohns few years later and never got better.
that's what scares my mother about it that this woman never got better that she won't.

to nvrthesame98,
can you tell me which part of my mom's symptoms you think that the virus did do worse on her and don't think it did on her if you know what i'm trying to ask?

If this were my mother I would be getting her seen at a teaching hospital. They have access to info & equipment that our main stream drs do not. I am afraid getting on the internet & checking out various forums & asking questions is not going to get you the information you are seeking. Keep in mind none of us are drs here so someone could come along & give you some bad input. I can understand you & your mom being tired of the dr scene, sometimes it happens to us too. Nonetheless, the teaching hospitals have helped many, many people when their own drs had no clue about things.

Viral infections can cause problems for some people over long periods of time and in many different ways but Candida is more likely a culprit here and its not difficult to turn around but most people don't realize they have it,the fungus left untreated directly attacks the digestive system and ends up crohns,Ulcerative colitis,and multiple GI issues. Right now from your description your Mom's health is critical regardless of what's causing it and medical intervention is necessity for treatment. Like others said your best bet is a University affiliated hospital or teaching hospital where every kind of specialists are under one roof including Infectious disease Dr. As long as she's weakened by lack of nutrition her body cannot do much to help itself fight an invasion of any foreign matters. Getting her immunity built back up has to be a priority and those that mentioned Tpn are talking about a powerfully packed liquid for intravenous infusion that contains loads of high protein and caloric replacements with everything you need.

You may be discouraged at this point with the doctor's but you have to keep pushing to get your Mom the treatment she needs.

I HAVE TOOK MY MOTHER TO HOSPITALS 20 TIMES THIS YEAR WHEN SHE GOT HER WORSE.
THEY HAVE BEEN NO HELP AND JUST SENDS HER BACK HOME WHEN THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH HER!
JUST EAT IS ALL THEY WOULD SAY!
SO YES I AM SEARCHING FOR HELP ON INTERNET CAUSE THESE DOCTORS HAVE NOT HELP MY MOTHER ANYWHERE.

I have pretty serious GI problems as well. Currently I have a feeding tube, but there have been times when the system has completely shut down. When this happens I've been placed on TPN. While this isn't a great way to get nutrition due to long-term effects, it is a way to get the nutrients needed. It's administered by IV so the gut is never involved. A feeding tube called a GJ is what I have now. This tube completely bypasses the stomach and is placed into the small intestine. I have something caused gastroparesis-basically a paralyzed stomach. Mine is due to autoimmune diseases, but I virus can also cause the condition to develop.

While these are all options, a Dr must prescribe them. I'm so sorry that this is happening. Motility issues are very hard to diagnose, and many Drs won't take a patient seriously(saying EAT) until blood work or tests reveal something. A research hospital is your best best. I drive 3hrs down to Duke where I have a medical team. My local Drs follow their treatment plan. Of course, it's easy to say find a good hospital, but actually getting them to treat your mom is the problem. The only advice I can give is to keep fighting. Your mom is lucky to have you. The ER of a large hospital might be the best way to access quality care. I know this sounds strange, but hopefully your mom's blood work will be abnormal and symptoms severe enough, to warrant an admission. I would think and adult weighing less than 100lbs would be a red flag.

Again, I'm sorry this is happening. Keep visiting the ER when symptoms flare, and hopefully, you'll come across a Dr who will realize that some type of intervention is needed.

Jen86, you came to this forum looking for ideas. You have been vague about the treatment your mother has had to date other than saying she has had scans. I realize you are upset but acting rude will get you no where on this forum.

if you come onto a forum and ask for advice, please dont respond in a negative way to those who try to help you. it will not yield good results.

I understand that UCLA is very far from Anderson but that is where you should take your mom. it is an excellent hospital ( one of the best)
take your mom to their ER, it will take a long time to get seen and a while to get a proper diagnosis but that is the best way.

tpn has nothing to do with the gut or digestive system (as others have mentioned )
its intravenous fluid that has nutrients so the body doesnt starve
but it wont cause any GI upset whatsoever
I have been so sick that I was unable to eat for several weeks so I know that tpn is ok for GI issues
if you give more info on what labs your mom had and what they looked like than maybe we can be of more help.
but as of now you seem to have shot down any real advice that was given

By the way how old are you? Not that it matters for anything other than whether you can seek any kind of intervention and treatment for your Mom or whether it's something she herself has to initiate.

Jen86, so sorry that your mom (and you!) are going through this.

When you say "gut dryness" what do you mean? I don't understand what you are saying. Is she constipated?

What kinds of tests did they do at the hospital/doctor for this problem? I know you mentioned blood tests (the results you mentioned are high but don't sound extremely alarming to me -- they just indicate that there is a problem). Has she had any scans? If so, what kind and what were the results? Has she had a colonoscopy or an endoscopy? Those would be extremely helpful to see what is going on inside of her body with her gastrointestinal tract.

How old are you and is English your second language? I ask only because your posts are a little difficult to fully understand and if English is not your native language you may be having problems explaining your mom's condition properly to the doctors. Hospitals can often have a patient advocate or translator that could help.

Your mother sounds like she is very ill and needs medical intervention soon if she only weighs 85 pounds! I hope you can find someone who can help her soon!!

I did find this article that talks about chicken pox affecting the GI tract, so it sounds like it's possible

i gave my mother coconut oil that i was told that helps her digestive problems.
the next day her mouth and chest is burning and chest sore now.
more acid in her stomach she calms.
can you explain why that happen?

If possible seek out the best RA Doctor you can find in your area and (a good one will have a 2 to 3 month wait list) but you can ask to be placed on a cancelations listing. To me it sounds like Sjogrens, sjogrens causes extreme dryness, and it can be associated with acid reflux. A lip biopsey can be done for further testing.

I have absolutely no idea why that would have happened other than a allergic response. There is no known side effects of coconut oil or interactions with it just as there's no known medicinal benefits substantiated with studies or trials. Nothing supporting it has any effects on anything bit raising triglycerides and people having reported weight loss. Don't know who advised you to give it to her but I would be more than leery giving her anything at all without a clearer idea of what's happening to her. I realize you and your Mom are frustrated with the medical community right now but you really need to get her some help soon and as we have all said a University hospital will be your best source.

i will say this again to everybody,
we had took her to different to doctors around we live at.
we have to way of getting to universitys out of town cause no one will take us.
besides when my mother deal with illness she has years ago also, she has been to those places.
five of them.

i want to thank some who try to help me what to do lately and blessings and my prayers go out to you also who has health issues too.
