Florida board of Pharmacy ruling. Tide changing?

The Florida board of Pharmacy made a ruling today in Florida in the hopes of ensuring pain patients who hold valid prescriptions get their meds. WESH was present at the meeting and say steps have been taken to educate Rphs and they will be required to attend credited hours of educational materials to learn to differentiate between diversion and providing better access to the medications prescribed for chronic pain.

The new rules focus on ways pharmacists should work to authenticate a prescription,instead of looking for red flags to deny it.

The changes mandate a two hour course on the issues of access and diversion,which must be completed every two years. They have until 2017 to undergo the training.

Chronic pain patients seem to have mixed views as to whether the new rules will be enough but admit its a step forward no matter how small.

Seems a step in the right direction, except what would they do to authenicate a medication and if there will be a mandatory wait time to get a prescription filled while they check for authenication, that's my concern. What the wait time will be?
So there are still some concerns here and if a person is new to Florida and questions this authenication will that then pull up the red flags?

I hope I am wrong but I don't see this as anything positive for a chronic pain patient. CPers have had the stigma attached to them far too many years by the public for this to make any big improvement. I think its going to take more than a 2 hour course to help them figure out what is legit or not. Those pharmacist have already been given way too much control over who gets meds & who doesn't. I am all for not letting them be diverted & have no problem with that.

Just my 2 cents, lol.

Char they have given no specifications for time but considering they won't keep scheduled prescriptions here if its not due to be filled I can see a problem. WESH 2 has another article today that's got some wording I am afraid of about the authentication process and said that there should be no problems obtaining the authentication with the ability of the pharmacies being able to contact the Dr. That scares me when it comes to not being able to take the thing to them early,drs not working 5 day work weeks and offices closing at 4-5 pm,vacations and three day holidays which there are many. Most Drs close days during Christmas and New year's. What happens then?

Just what I thought, this is nothing more than a bunch of lip service. We all know what its like getting through to a drs office & for those that have multiple clinics where the drs rotate what do you think will happen then?

I think this is just to.shut chronic pain patients up. It will still be up the pharmacist if he wants to fill a rx or not. The lack of specifics is concerning.

Oh I am sure your both right! The WESH news team for whatever reason has been on a mission since last year shedding a lot of media attention on the plight of CPers here in Florida and being an election year coming up the potential candidates have to pacify the voters even those with disabilities because we have families and friends and every vote counts. I have to commend the news team since they have given our plight here way more than most media outlets and in a good light. They've gone undercover,spent countless hours interviewing not only the patients but Doctors,Rphs,DEA,and law enforcement agencies and got the stories told with the truth at the forefront. Just wondering...since patients that use medical marijuana have to carry a photo ID (at least here in NJ), would they be coming up with a similar ID plan for us who need our pain medication?

Sorry, about my reply. Sometimes the big wording on these gets me confused, kinda like they have a proposition that if you vote yes it means no, so those things can be confusing and they really should put this in more layman terms, so john Q public can understand what the exact meaning is...So I'll plead saying "WHAT"???
