Hi all,
I'm 43, and up until about 18months ago led a active lifestyle...I've been dealing with some joint pain for about 18months...It's random, comes and goes, but occurs at least 2-3 times per week. The worst is in my left hip area and left arm/shoulder. When the pain hits, it's so bad that I am unable to move my arm,, and unable to bear weight or lift my leg....I've gained about 35pounds in the past 18months due to slacking on my exercise due to pain. I'm sure this only makes the joint pain worse....working on getting my weight back down.
So I went to the Dr..had a ton of tests. Still no answers. Bone scan showed several "hot spots"..dark spots that showed something going on with my shoulders, tibia, fibia, hip area, clavicle areas, and a spot that is consistent with a healing rib fracture--no idea I had but had some severe pain over the mid summer that I now correlate to this. ! .....Had blood work (normal), CT scan, MRI,,,,all with areas that showed something going on,,,but unclear what.
I was sent to a leading bone oncologist because my orthopedist thought I could have bone cancer....he ruled that scary one out....but still no answers. I've been told to just medicate through the pain....I don't want to live like that!! I want to know what is going on.
I do have thyroid disease...asked if that could be an indicator with what is going on..told no that it isn't. I asked about anemia playing a role (I had an iron infusion via IV back in april)..they said no...
It has gotten to where I need to find another job that is less physical due to the pain.
I guess my question is,,,how do you get diagnosed with other disorders like osteoporosis, arthritis, etc? Can that show on a scan? I'm just trying to think of other diseases it could be...I have another appt with my orthopedist next week but just trying to gather ideas.
thanks..
