Peripheral neuropathy

Hi, I've posted a couple of times here but am mostly on the UC forum. A little over a year ago, I was switched from remicade to humira for my UC. Almost immediately, my feet hurt so badly that I could barely walk on them and had to take a medical leave. None of my docs would agree that the cause was humira until I met with a CP doc. She has been terrific. It's taken about a year to get my symptoms under control but in the last 2-4 weeks my symptoms have returned to the degree that I am taking time off from work. I am an advanced practice nurse working all the usual long shifts so it's dreadful being on my feet. My question is: with peripheral neuropathy, is it normal to have periods of exacerbation? I'm so discouraged and would rather trade my feet for peg feet.

I also have RSD/CRPS in my right foot from a college injury.

Hi Pixie and welcome back to CP. Yes there's definitely times those of us who have neuropathy have sudden "flare ups" just as with anything else basically. There are some things that can cause this to occur,sometimes nothing at all. Stress of course effects about everything and neuropathy is no different. Meds of course,even the weather changing has been associated with it. Meds for neuropathy,specifically neurontin lyrica cymbalta many times these meds have to be adjusted for a time to get passed the bump in the road. You also have said you've been on pred recently and we see ppl reporting an increase in symptoms on higher dosing of steroids. Knowing what you know about how steroids work that makes sense doesn't it? I know it's not a great feeling as I have neuropathy as well but generally if you can just hang in there it will settle down after awhile. Not the most encouraging news but all I have. Good luck and I am hoping once you get off the steroids you will see improvement.
