Cubital Tunnel Release Surgery...anyone?

Hello. about a year ago i slipped on ice going into work and fractured my shoulder this was through workman's comp. I was put in a sling for 6 months while being in the sling for too long I believe that is what caused my Cubital Tunnel. I had swelling, numbness,tightness in hand. My index finger also went crooked. I still have pain, tightness and no strength in the hand. I still can't return to work.I have a lot of pain the entire time. Workmans comp is disputing it and i was sent for a nerve test that said Left cubital tunnel moderately severe. Well they are disputing it again and said it isn't part of the injury. I am going to see a Hand specialist tomorrow. Ok my question is does this help and what do i expect from the surgery? I just want to be able to get back to work. Is it a long healing period. What am I looking at? I know i should just wait and see what the DR says but i am so worried. What if while waiting for workmans comp to pay for it has made it worse and what if it wont never be the same. I just want it fixed so i can go back to work. I have insurance and is it a pricey surgery? Do they put you to sleep. I know i am over thinking it all but i cant be in pain no more or enjoy my life. My hand swells anytime i do anything.

Hello Porshe. Welcome to the forum. Sometimes, I think work related injuries are the worst! Do you have a lawyer? The doctor decides if it is 'causally related' to the injury. Have you had any physical therapy for this?

I had an injury to my left arm. Initially, only the shoulder was examined because the x-rays of my elbow didn't show a fracture. After complaining constantly for 4 months, they finally did an E.M.G. and 'discovered' the damage to my ulnar nerve. I had an 'ulnar nerve transposition' surgery performed.

Have they told you which nerve or nerves are involved? Since you say your index finger was affected, I'd guess it is your radial nerve.

Please let us know what the hand specialist has to say about it.

I went to see specialist today and he is doing the surgery. ulnar nerve entrapment surgery. I had looked into this so much I already knew but was hoping he would say something else. Everything he said is what I already looked up. I had so many questions but forgot to ask 1 question. On my index finger that is the radial nerve. If he is doing ulnar nerve entrapment surgery will that fix what is wrong with my finger?? I did ask if it would fix my finger and he said probaly not but we wont know until we do the surgery. So my question is to all of you. If you have had this surgery what am I to expect? Thank you.

Hello again. As I said, I had a transposition surgery. I am not sure that it is the same thing that you are going to be having, so I really cannot comment on what you are to expect.

I'm wondering if you've been seen by a neurologist? Since you suffered a shoulder injury from a fall, the neck could also be involved, as well as the wrist if you tried to stop your fall.

You say this is Worker's Comp, so it is doubtful you have received a full work up. They tend to treat the most obvious first and only if you have continuing problems will they look further.

One step at a time. Have your release surgery done and see how it goes. Follow the instructions of the physical therapist and don't overdo.
