I am so sorry for the unexpected finding of lung cancer in your BFF. I am sure that you are feeling her pain in receiving the tentative diagnosis as if it were your own.

Just take the news one day at a time with your friend. One test at a time. One specialist appointment at a time.

My father, who was a heavy smoker, passed away from lung cancer 14 years ago.

There are new treatments available - more targeted chemotherapies; immunotherapy; proton beam radiation therapy.

Not all lung cancers are the same/equal. Small cell lung cancer. Large cell lung cancer. Adenocarcinoma. Squamous cell carcinoma. Your friend will know more once she has a biopsy performed and the type of originating cell type determined.

You have the perspective of true empathy and the true bond of a long-term friendship to give your BFF - which is a precious gift.

BC, I am so sorry to read about your friend. I know you are devastated by this news. Like Karen said, the biopsy will be the deciding factor here. There is so much that can be done if it turns out to be cancer. We will all pray they are wrong.

Two years ago my son got sick & went to a walkin clinic. They did a chest xray & came back telling him he had a mass on his lung & needed a CT right away. You can imagine the terror & fear we went through. He got in with his primary dr & did a Ct Scan & it was pneumonia!! Lets hope this holds true for your friend.

The incidence of lung cancer in non-smoking individuals is on the rise. Second-hand smoke is one component. Air pollution and particulates in the air. Asbestos. Coal-burning industrial plants. Molds and allergens.

Hopefully, your friend's lung cancer has been caught at an early stage where treatment options offer hope.

Continue to be the good friend to you that you are. Your connection will mean a lot to her, as your heart and caring is genuine.

Yes. Praying it is in early stage. I will be accompanying her for the pest scan. She ask and I said absolutely.
