Hello.. I'm new to forum talk.. Not very computie so I hope I'm in the right spot? I'm scheduled to have a n anterior cervical Discectomy-fusion-instumented.. I've got spondylolisthesis -degenerative disc disease.. Herniated discs.. Stenosis. And Osteoarthritis .Just wondering if anyone out there has had good results with their operation. I'm just about to throw in the towel. Thanks

Welcome Scaredykit. I'm sure someone with experience will be replying to your post soon. Meanwhile, there is a thread titled Chronic Pain 101 at the top of the thread listings. The third post has a lot of good info about the type of surgery you are scheduled to have. I would suggest reading it.

Hi Scaredy & welcome to Healing Well. Yes, you have posted in the right place. So glad you found us as we have had many members that has had this surgery with good results.

A few key elements to a successful surgery are; have the best surgeon you can find that has a lot of these surgeries, following your post op instructions to the letter, not trying to do things around the house that you shouldn't be doing & above all be patient with your recovery & listen to your body. This is not a surgery that you will be completely healed from in a few weeks, time & patience will become your new friends.

I urge you to look at the top here & click on CP101. Scroll towards the bottom & you will find many useful tips by members that has had this surgery. You need to be prepared before & after surgery.

Hi scared kit and Welcome to the Forum! There are quite a few of us here on this forum that have had the ACDF procedure done. Some have had multiple discectomy and fusions done at one time, others like me have had multiple ACDF'S done but singlely but at different times! I had my first ACDF done at C6/7 in 1985 and then had my second ACDF at C5/6 in 2009. I've also had a posterior fusion at C3/4 with rods and pins in 2010.

All of these fusions relieved my pain and helped me allot. Although my first ACDF left me without a voice and swallowing difficulties for about three months after the surgery, but my voice did come back and eventually for the most the swallowing difficulties went away. I'm not sure what exactly your looking for, but for myself personally I feel I've had good results with all of the surgeries and glad I had them Done! After finally getting a diagnosis, my first ACDF was considered an emergency surgery, and according to the neurosurgeon that performed the Surgery I was very lucky that I didn't end up a quadriplegic!

It's good you found us. When is your surgery scheduled? What level will the doctor be working on? I had cervical surgery 3 years ago, mine was Posterior. The title to my own story is listed in my signature. I'm also glad I had it-took away a bunch of pain. The recovery was long and this forum helped a great deal, so feel free to ask questions, read our stories, tell us what you need. We're here for you!
