Hey, its been awhile since we have had an update on your shoulder. Did you get all of the PT done that was needed?

Also, what about your friend that was diagnosed with cancer?

Hi, thanks for checking on me. I have been popping in a little lately, just not posting.

I finished pt in March. It is still a little tight but much better. I had a nerve block in neck 2 weeks ago with no relief. Now to ENT to see if this is from ear or gland. I have been fighting this for a few years. I thought the impingement in shoulder being fixed may help. I have several problems in cervical spine. (c4, c5 c6 and c7) Dentist says it is not your teeth causing all this pain. It is just a mystery. I let it go for so long. I guess we just get use to living with pain.

My friend is fighting. She has had radiation on her head for the 2 small spots. Will have a mri soon to see the results. She has chemo every 3 weeks and has 6 to 8 more treatments. Will have a scan first week of June. She can't sleep and is very tired. The radiation took a toll. She is strong, but it is a battle.

We had a leak so we are in the middle of replacing all of our flooring. It was only in kitchen but insurance covered it all. A little good news.

So glad to read that your shoulder is better. Lets hope the nerve block kicks in as a delayed reaction, that would be awesome. Hopefully the ENT can shed some light on your situation. Sometimes it always seems like it is something going on.

Your friend sounds like a fighter and I am sure you are in there fighting with her. Radiation can cause fatigue along with the chemo. My mom went through the fatigue when she had radiation. Keeping her & you in my prayers.

I had the ENT visit last week and was told ears are fine. I would have bet a million dollars my left ear had something wrong with it the way it hurts. He says this is TMJ which I have had for 20 years but not treated. I will go to pt if I can find one that specializes in TMJ and can release it properly. He didn't say I should return to tmj doctor that I went to years ago. PT is worth a try.

I passed out at midnight on Wednesday due to extreme stomach pains. Husband was over me worried sick. Just a sore spot on my head thank goodness. I didn't know pain would cause this but I called my doc and they said yes. Always something going on around here.

Big case:
Be very cautious about supposed "TMJ" physicians. There is a lot of quackery and just plain-and-honest poor care associated with temperomandubular malalignment.

Rocckyd provided me with some outstanding advice and links to a TMD advocacy group. The information through the TMD advocacy group was exceptionally helpful in helping me navigate appropriate treatment. I will wait to let Rocckyd respond before adding more. She has a lot of TMD wisdoms.

The abbreviation TMJ been replaced by TMD.

Bottom Line: Do your full due diligence of any physician or dentist. Be careful of any dentist who wants you to agree to $10,000 for a series of mouth guards. Do not agree to TMD surgery.

A custom molded mouth guard has proved immensely helpful for me. It cost about $800 and was not covered by dental insurance. You will find that TMD is in a sort of treatment black hole. It is neither xiveeed by dental nor medical insurance. Lack of coverage is mainly due to a treatment options that have shown little to no credibility. Insurance is reluctant to pay for treatments that have had poor outcomes.

The mouth guard has been a God send and worth every penny that I had to pay for its fabrication. I just have to be careful not to place it in a Kleenex when I take it out to eat - throwing away the Kleenex by mistake.

That is one reason I haven't gone back to the doctor I saw years ago. Very expensive. I had what he called a splint. I wore it 23 hours a days. I had a dentist make a night guard but it is not as good as that one was. I think the pt will be first option.

I would like all the info I can get at this point. I have moved to mainly soft foods. Cut out chewing gum. Probably need to search out a new pillow. I am very picky here though. Neck is big problem so a good comfy pillow with right next support is a must.

This is a non-profit, 503-C status, organization.

When I contacted them, they provided information sheets and flyers relevant to my particular TMJ problems. I also receive a monthly newsletter. You can trust, fully, information disseminated from this organization.

I had my appt with the specialized pt this week for tmj. It was very good. She explained everything as she worked on me thoroughly. It was a little painful when she did the release inside the mouth but felt better the next day. Its an hour from my house so I will not be able to go but once a week for a few weeks. It helped many things in my neck but still have the pain around cheek. I think it will end up being a tooth as well. They have said it is not though. It was more of a setting of massage than the pt I have gone too. Very therapeutic. Best thing was laying on the heated bed for an hour. That was awesome on this old back. Everyone have a great weekend. I am going to try to walk a 5k this morning with a friend.

Hi bigecase, well it sounds like you are onto something good with this therapist. I am so glad to read you are having a positive response on the first visit. Hopefully you can do as much PT as possible even if it is only once a week.

Your first TMD appointment with the physical therapist sounds very encouraging. Your body intuitively knows when it is in good hands.

The warmed therapy chair/plynth sounds wonderful and relaxing. The soothing warmth adds it's own benefits to the TMD treatments.

I am glad that the first appointment was positive.

I had second visit with the specialized TMD treatment. I actually was turned over to the owner and he was great. He has been doing this for over 18 years. Very thorough in explaining every muscle and how it affects everything. He says if it feels like razor blades cutting in your mouth then the muscles are full of inflammation. It does while he is working on it. He says I have fever in my jaw from so much. I had no idea. Hopefully this will get all straightened out. It is not curable but manageable.

I super happy to read that you have found someone experienced in TMJ & you are responding. I too have suffered with TMJ for years after a car accident. Last week had a lot of dental work done & its in full bloom.Please keep us updated.

Celebrate the small wins. A succession of small wins can make for a more substantial refinding of health.

I have also been plagued by TMD joint dysfunction owing to long-standing corticosteroid use. I have found fair relief in working with a TMD specialist who is a periodontal dentist. He fabricated a series of bite plates that have been a fair source of relief by aligning my jaw in a more relaxed state.

It can be difficult to find a qualified clinician. There is a lot of snake oil offered to those suffering with TMD joint problems.

I am glad that you have a great clinician on your side and that you are finding success with his care.

Yesterdays visit was better than the others. He is working knots out of neck and shoulders and doing the treatment on tmj. I felt great all afternoon. But the soreness came at 230 am. Been up ever since. He said to expect it.
