You can be assured that your nerve pain should not be permanent.
The EMG study is reassuring toward nerve recovery. It shows mild inflammation if the nerve (radulopathy) and no overt trauma that would suggest a long term problem (no denervation).
Bottom Line: Your L4-5 nerve root is still inflamed and irritated from the underlying issue that prompted the microdiscecfomy. The surgery has successfully removed pressure to the nerve. Nerves, however, can remain irritated for several months even after successful surgery.
Time and patience will be your best friends in healing.
As Straydog/Susie mentioned, there are medications that can help lower the threshold of nerve sensitivity. Lyrica, Gabapentin.
If you have access to a local community pool program (ex. YMCA air arthritis pool program) that can be a refreshing means to restore flexibility and movement in a pain relieving environment of warm and buoyant water. Therapeutic pool programs can go a long way in supporting one's rehabilitation.
