Helping family. How hard is it to get my script filled in GA?

I have my paper scripts. Good ones, not ordinary paper. Copy-proof. I'm scared I won't be able to get my meds here, and I'm needed here for a while yet.

Alcie, I hope you do not run into any issues. I too think as long as you are going to fill the scripts with the same chain you probably will not have any problems. I would expect to be questioned but hopefully things will go smooth for you.

Alcie, here is my suggestion, have your husband fill your scripts & overnight them to you. I would not send them regular mail. Pay the extra money to have them overnighted. I think it would be a risk I would not be willing to take to since you are not using a national chain to fill your scripts. Showing up at a pharmacy where you are not known, out of state scripts, certainly not something I personally would do. The environment of today dictates many things.

I agree with having your DH fill and overnight your script. He should stuff cotton in rx bottle so there is NO rattling. I would worry that it could get stolen by whoever in transit.

Personally, I would have him only mail half. Just safer. Once you get the package safely, maybe he could mail the other half.

I am also a chronic pain patient and will likely be in your position one day, as I have 2 very elderly parents.

Alcie, my thoughts are no on the pharmacist mailing you meds. I would get my usual fill amount & as the other member suggested perhaps over night half of the meds if this is what you need. I would not use regular mail at all. Great idea on stuffing the bottles with cotton. I would stuff the box with paper or peanuts & I would not do this anywhere except at home.

I doubt your pharmacist will agree to accept responsibility for mailing a class 2 prescription to you out of state out of respect for his legal jeopardy.

Best situation would be to have your husband fill your prescription at your usual in-state pharmacy that you customarily use. Have your husband send you 1-2 week’s worth of medication via Fex Ex or UPS overnight service with a tracking number. The ideas presented to stuff the pill container with contain to minimize rattling noises is wise. Your husband can place your medication in a zip lock bag instead of a standard plastic pill bottle.

I use Fed Ex and UPS frequently and have never had even a single package lost or misplaced during transit. Bar code identification allows real-time tracking of packages. You can actually follow your package, minute to minute, while in transit by following the package’s individual ID bar code by logging onto the Fed Ex or UPS site.

The United Postal Service (USPS) also offers overnight delivery with ID tracking and insurance. Do not discount the USPS for reliable service delivery.

I would not overly worry. Chances are, it will all work out fine. Best wishes,

Alcie, I am glad it worked out for you! I appreciate you sharing the info for the rest of us. If I am out of state it is very likely I would not have anybody to pick the rx up for me. In the past I have been told I could pick it up from another pharmacy but I really doubt that as my pharmacy is a small Mom and Pop, not a chain. I am sure walking in new with a narcotics prescription from out of state would be hard to fill. Sometimes even interested pharmacies have had limited supplies they keep for their regular customers. But I am so glad it worked out for you and thanks!

Glad to hear that you were able to travel and return home to get your prescription filled by your customary pharmacy.

Those of us with chronic conditions often have to prepare ahead when traveling or otherwise out of town. Narcotics are one consideration. I have an ostomy and always have to make certain to have extra pouching supplies with me. My brother takes anti-seizure medication for epilepsy and has to be diligent about having sufficient medication with him when traveling. He loves to travel to remote corners of the world. He keeps a water-right pill vial with a week’s extra medication when he travels abroad. And has sometimes sent a package by DHL courier ahead to meet him at a hotel destination.

Your post is a good reminder to all of us with specific medication needs to plan ahead, as best as we can.

Yes . . . My brother’s medical history includes a malignant brain tumor (grade IV glioblastoma multiforma) at the age of 16 and intractable grand meal seizures. He has physical challenges from spasticity that impact his walking and fine motor control (difficulties with writing or buttoning a shirt).

He always travels as part of an expedition company, so that he has accompanied 1:1 support. He has traveled to the far reaches of the globe: the North Pole, Antartica, Peru, Equador, Russia, and more. He always takes tours that involve extensive hiking and outdoor adventures in nature; tuning-in to indigenous people, local customs, and exotic animals; and tuning-out from computers/iPhones and 24-hour newsfeeds. My brother he is a true example of living despite personal limitations. He has a genuine appreciation for the larger world that abounds us.

While at home, my brother volunteers EVERY day at a local nursing home, spending time with residents who are elderly, frail, and largely forgotten. He volunteers as if were a paid employee - he never misses a day. He has been volunteering at this same nursing home for 14 years.

Years of being my brother’s legal guardian has depleted me and has contributed to my own health perils. But I am immensely proud of who my brother is in the face of all that he has been through. If my brother can get up out of bed each day and put both feet on the ground and create a day of meaning, then so too shall I strive to do.
