Hello everyone!
I’m sure you clicked on my post because you have the same similar effects.
I broke my femur, arm and many facial bones about 5 years ago and now I have titanium rod in my femur. Since the cold weather has broke out in full force my leg has not stopped hurting to a point I wanna cry.
Has anyone had the same problems or pain? If so, what has helped if anything? If you have any suggestions that would be great too!

Hi Sforte. I don't have such implants but am affected greatly by the cold. This year, I bought some fleece lined pants...what a difference! I used to have to wear a snow suit to go out at all! So far, temps have dipped into the 20's and the pants are sufficient on their own. We'll be in the single digits this weekend and I may have to put the snow suit on in addition, but so far, so good. They're not too warm for inside, either! The one's I have a Wrangler brand...boys size, as I'm tiny...but I know for a fact they make them in adult sizes...mostly for men but I'm sure you'll find something that fits. It won't take the whole problem away, but it may help simply by keeping the leg warmer.

Hello & welcome to Healing Well. Over the years we have had members post about their hardware bothering them a lot in cold temperatures. I remember some saying buying an electric throw to cover with helped them quite a bit, this may be an option for you. I live in an area that we have mild winters, however, I do not tolerate cold well at all. My sister sent me a set of long underwear called Cuddl Duds several years ago. All I can say is I love them & they keep me very warm. Last year I found a set at Walmart & was thrilled. You can do a google search & find retailers all over that sells them. They come in a variety of choices & styles. They are available in mens & womens. The ones I bought last year are fleece lined & I love them. I do not like a hot house, by wearing these under my jeans & shirts on the cold days my husband is not sweating because I have the thermostat set so high, lol.

I do hope you can find something that will bring you some relief. Keep us posted.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I have a terrible time with the cold and never thought about the role of the 'spare parts' that I am increasingly made of as having any impact. Interesting! Susie...I am purchasing the Cuddl Duds right now online. Thanks for the tip!

Lol, zenhen I also live in FL! When it's below 68 I get cold and can't warm up. In late Spring I am taking a trip to Alaska (husband's pick). Once a year or 2 I force myself to take a trip with him. He sacrifices so much and it's important we do this while we can. But ALASKA?

Susie...I wanted to let you know I bought Cuddl Duds and anybody who needs to warm up should try these! I love them...What a difference. I bought a second pair. Perfect, thank you for the rec!

Darla, you are welcome. I really like it because there are so many different options available to pick from depending on the need. I always look on their website to see what is new, but never order from them because of the price. I know I can beat their price elsewhere. I need to check Walmart's website to see if they have them this year, it may be a little late to order from them. My light weight fleece lined set is my favorite. Since I wear jeans most of the time, some of my shirts I can wear alone as they look like any other shirt.

I wear leg warmers or knee socks in the house. I have to wear long pants even in summer. If I have to shovel the walk I wear snow pants.

It's not just hardware that causes severe sensitivity to cold. Neuropathy can do the same thing. The hardware in my foot hurts when it's cold, and my broken neck gave me sensitivity in both my legs.

As soon as it gets below 68 I can't get warm. I mean wearing sweats and almost shivering. Under a heated throw. Wearing a hat indoors. I have a lot of Titanium in me now...I think the 4 level ACDF from July is leaving me feeling like my core is freezing when it gets cold. I have Raynaud's so it is an over-reaction in my system. The Cuddl Duds are the first thing that has given me any relief! I have not been out in the really cold weather in them but indoors they really help because they are lightweight but cozy and clinging. I would turn the heat up higher but I live with two other people who would really suffer. Alcie, I am sure I have neuropathy as well. I had not thought about that aspect. I hope you do not have to shovel too often! That has to hurt.

Same issue here with both hips replaced. If out in the cold it takes hours to warm up inside.

Chotti, it makes so much sense that the replaced parts would get cold and stay cold but I never heard about this before. I really notice it much more this year and I think it is because I had a lot of titanium added in July with a 4 level cervical disk surgery. Hope you warm up soon!

In the mean time, the are reusable instant heat packets ( usually bags of sodium acetate) that can be applied to the area for some warmth. Or microwave wraps . And the best way to warm cold bones /implants for whatever reason a nice wood burning stove radiating heat . AHHH!!!

I think I found the Holy Grail...from Amazon, a pair of Sherpa fleece-lined pants. I got an x-small and it is very roomy (men's) but the lining is like a thick furry blanket and the outside a draw-string sweatpants. They are keeping my lower body so warm! If anybody wants further details just let me know and I will find them. Pitmom...I bet these are the same pants you have?

Anyone here living in Chicago or areas of the upper mid-west experiencing bitter cold temperatures due to the Polar Vortex?

Yikes ! Meteorology predictions of temperatures 20-30 degrees below zero (with wind chill factor). Double yikes !

Cozy fleece pants and Susie’s Cuddle leggings would be a must.

I live on the west coast. Mild temperate climate. The city of Portland literally shuts down when there is an inch of snow.

A moment of prayer to those of you who are having to brave extra cold temperatures. Be sure to take care of your pets.

Seashell... yep Portland gets a sprinkle of snow the whole city is an ice rink. The snow is heavy wet and icy. Tree branches cuts off elec and shuts down roads. Mainly due to all the bridges and hills. It’s not flat most areas is like bumper cars. It’s cold in Portland I feel it more due to high humidity level.

Darla, no, not the same thing. Mine are fleece lined boys Wrangler pants. I've had a much more comfortable winter thus far, thanks to them. I now have 5 pairs!!! This morning, just to 'switch things up', I wore jeans and my overall snow pants! I'm in New Jersey, we won't get as cold as the middle of the country...this time.

Hi Pitmom! I am from NY so I know you get some very cold weather in NJ! Glad you are not getting this round but I am sure it is cold since it is cold even in FL. I am waiting for my second pair of the fleece-lined sweatpants to be delivered. Crazy world...I have to stop working and start shopping to try and feel better. I am glad you have a nice line of winter wear! Stay warm.
