Have you had an EMG done? Nerve Conduction Study done?
I have permanent nerve damage from an injury to my elbow. The ulnar nerve began to subluxate and I had a submuscular transposition done. It took quite some time for the 'nerve zaps' to stop...but what you are describing sounds similar, which is why I suggest the nerve studies.
I am several years post op now but when I over use my arm/hand, I get an achiness that is indescribable...from nerve irritation! No zaps, thank goodness...but I know it's the nerve, not the muscles that ache. I would never try using my t.e.n.s. unit for it!!! Over stimulation of an already irritated nerve would be disasterous for me.
Have the doctors tried giving you a script for gabapentin? Have they considered shingles as being the cause? The herpes virus responsible for shingles is a mutation of chicken pox, which most of us have had as children. It travels the nerve paths and causes a rash of varying degrees.
Thank you so much, this is actually really helpful. Atleast this is something I can go on and ask to be referred to some sort of Nerve Testing.
If you don't mind, can you elaborate a bit more about
your pain?
Such as how long did it last, what did the doctors do to help you fix the problem? How long did it take to heal? Any range of motion being restricted? Strength lost? Such as grip strength? Can you still do workouts (Basics Pushups, bench, squat, pull up, curls, tricep, shoulder raises etc)
Were there any real consequence when you over use your arm? Like is it just very painful zaps, but nothing actually gets damaged, torn. Like if you were to continue overuse while having tendinitis, causing the tendon further damage.
Thank you
