Shooting Pain

I've been posting about my shoulder; it seems to be on the right track to healing whatever's wrong with it. Keep my fingers crossed on that.

I didn't sleep well last night and I seemed to have some pain in my hip flexor or right at the top of my left thigh. I kept waking up in some discomfort. I got up in the morning and went about my day. I've been at my desk and this terrible shooting pain keeps coming back in that very top of thigh / hip flexor area. The more I sit, the worse it is. I am planning to go for a walk, although it's quite windy and cold today. This shooting pain is just agonizing when it comes. It's almost like someone is stabbing me in the hip flexor!

I don't recall injuring it. I am active and have been active for the most part as of late. I'm about 5'9" and 160lbs and consider myself to be in pretty good shape for a 53-year old. But these strange and sometimes debilitating ailments / injuries seem to come out of nowhere. I went for a run on Saturday, did a cardio / body weight strength workout and rode the stationary bike yesterday. Neither was too exhausting.

I hate going to the doctor for something like this because it probably won't help! And who knows, maybe the pain will be gone by the time I visit a doctor.

FYI... Prior to having total colectomy surgery in the summer of 2000, I was on Prednisone for about 7.5 years (at times heavy doses 40-50mg). For the past 20 years, I have been taking 360mg of codeine daily to deal with my digestive tract. So, there are those drugs hanging over me and you never know what kinds of things they can do to one's body...

Any suggestions as to what this could be?

I agree with you! I was only fishing to see if someone could relate to some of these strange ailments I have been having! I am typically a healthy person but every now and again I get some weird things happen. I remember about 9 years ago, all of a sudden I got 'mallet finger'. I didn't know what it was at the time, but it was quite strange when I lost control of the tip of my finger! I waited a couple of days to get it checked, just thinking it would fix itself. Of course they put a splint on it but it took about 8-10 weeks to heal and eventually go back to normal. Fortunately, it was an isolated problem!

When I visited my friend's Chiropractor clinic for my shoulder a couple of weeks ago, I told him I was embarrassed going to see him right after I saw him for my back! I just feel like my body is falling apart. If this is what the 50s are like, I hate to think what the 60s and 70s will be like should I be fortunate enough to get there!
