I've had the Medtronic pain pump for 4 months now with 5 mcg steady drip and two boluses of 1.35 mcg with a 6 hour pause. I've got the PTM device. I visited a new physician and he upped the dilaudid 75 power or strength from 7.7 to either 49 or 70 I can't remember. My pentec health nurse is coming tomorrow to check on it - You would think a 7x or 10x increase would AT LEAST AFFECT something but - I can't tell any difference. My new physician told me not to worry if it did not change anything - after taking dilaudid for 20 years I have an extremely high tolerance. This is extremely unusual for any physician to up your meds so dramatically; however, my case is unique, I thought I should share. DWK

Keith, the dr has a valid point on you having built up a tolerance to Dilaudid, I did not realize you had been taking Dilaudid for 20 years. A person can build up a tolerance to any medication taken long term. Are you still limited to 2 bolus per day? What about switching you to Morphine in your pump, this may be something to consider.

Just got back from Dr. he changed concentration of dilaudid from 75 to 500 and doubled dose from 43 to 100 today. Told me to come back in two days and he will raise it substantially again if need be. So...................who knows - maybe one of these days the pump will work.

just got back from Dr. and he raised my 100 mcg per day to 450 mcg and told me to come back in a week and he'll raise it again if he needs to.. Finally a physician that will work with you
