I have had lower back pain for many years. It starts up at night while sleeping. In the middle of the night or early morning I often wake up in agony and I am forced to switch sleeping positions (from back to side). It feels like an intense pressure on my lower back. I am usually stiff when I get up and then eventually I forget about
it and carry on with my day. More recently, some days I can't forget about
it as the pain lingers through the day and is extremely uncomfortable. I have had 2 or 3 MRIs on it over the past 10 years. The most recent one shows protrusion of the L5 (I think) and possible nerve issues related to that.
Not sure if this is related, and if it is, how much... But a couple of days ago I started having more intense pain all the time. It is radiating from the left side of my lower back, just above or around my waist. A chiro friend thinks it could be a strained Sacroiliac tendon. Yesterday I suffered badly but today I am in constant agony all day long. The pain is pretty much unbearable. I have been icing it and heating it. The latter seems a little more comforting but doesn't help much.
I called the local clinic and a doctor called me back. I was told that I could go to the ER for a Toradol shot and I have been put on the MRI list. I have a bottle of Morphine at home. I could either take some Morphine or go to the ER for a Toradol shot. Any suggestions? I need relief in a bad way as I am suffering horribly like never before with my back. Splitting pain across my lower back....
It was very difficult just typing this post into my laptop. The doctor gave me the option of the shot or my Morphine. Not sure which would be best... Any suggestions? Please...

Perhaps it's time to ask your gp to refer you to a specialist for a consult & let the specialist look at your MRI. You need a definitive diagnosis one way or the other by a specialist. Toradol can help with pain & inflammation, the Morphine will help pain only, only you can decide what it right for you. In the meantime, consider buying some OTC pain patches that contain lidocaine to see if they give you a little relief.
Take care.

Already done! The trick is waiting for my MRI which could take a while... In the interim, I went for a Toradol shot last night and my condition went from completely unbearable to bearable. I can actually function now without wincing in pain every few seconds! Baby steps...

How long have you had the morphine? If you take it and go to the ER or to see a pain doctor within a few days of taking it. Be sure you take your bottle with you. That way you can show the medicine was prescribed to you and you had some left. If not,you might be labeled as, a drug seeker.

Didn't know morphine could be prescribed OTC, thought it was only given in a hospital setting. When my back flare-up with severe thigh pain, toroidal didn't do anything! Glad it helped you out!

Morphine can only be legally obtained by prescript
ion. It is not OTC (Over The Counter)
