I really wish I had someone to talk to! My plate just seems to get fuller and fuller! I guess I need to give a little background info. I had a full hip replacement back in 2012 and then a revision done in 2017, because the first one that was put in, was to big. Not only too long for my body but also to wide! So, somewhere along the line, I ended up with nerve damage in my left leg, which has caused the CRPS. SO, I accept this and go on with my life. Fast forward to this year and after being on pain killers for about 10 years, they decide that I have to come off of them! Let me tell you that it's sure not easy to do!! Any way, the stress of coming off of them, I believe, has sent me into stage 3 of CRPS and I was diagnosed with this awhile back. I can only use my both of my legs for about 10 minutes before the pain becomes unbearable! My question is once it has spread from one limb to the other, can you retain some use of the limb that was recently affected, if you get into some kind of treatment as soon as possible?

Were you seeing a pain management doctor? If you were, you need to find a new pain management doctor. If you were not seeing a pain management doctor. You need to find one. Unless you do not want to be on opiates to help you manage the pain.

I've been at the same pain management office for the last 7 years and just recently found out that they do not specialize in CRPS. I may have to go back on opiates but I would like to try something else. I just recently had an MRI on the hip replacement, cause I've been hearing clicking and feeling movement in there that shouldn't be there. Anyway, I see the PM doc on Monday and depending on what the MRI shows up, I'm going to ask to be referred to a doctor that specializes in CRPS! That's my plan!

Hi Pony Lady, there are different ways to treat CRPS besides pain medications, which are not very effective for neuropathic pain. You do need a dr that is experienced in CRPS, that's for sure. Antidepressants, anticonvulsants, sympathetic nerve blocks & low dose intravenous ketamine are treatments available. All of this is trial & error to see what works the best.

Here is a link to check out drs that treat CRPS; rsds.org/finding-a-crps-specialist. When you get to the site they also provide several pain mgt links to to locate pain mgt drs.

It's a difficult condition to treat, however, with the right dr & treatment it can get better. As far as improvement of an affected limb, such as your leg, there is a chance for improvement. I remember when drs were first diagnosing this awful condition & trying to treat, treatment has come a long way.

Thanks Susie! It's not good when both legs are affected! I just thought I was somewhat limited before! I've been thru the ketamine treatment, but it was a limited version of it, not the 4 day treatment, they talk about and it was several years ago.
