Greetings,
I had the same surgery many years ago and never had your issue. Just the pain affected my sleep. I will offer some advice for you. Please be careful with this recovery. Give your body the time it needs to heal and be aware that you will have to be careful about how you move your body from now on. Turning especially. That's turning, not just your head but the entire body. You will have to train yourself to a whole new way to do things. It will become automatic eventually. In the beginning, just moving slowly is so important. If you drive, depending on which side of your neck is involved, becomes difficult and you will teach yourself to move the entire upper body vs the head. I am speculating that you had some Radiculopathy and I remember the Joy and relief after Surgery. That PAIN is so brutal. I had quite a lot of nerve damage and it still pops up at times however, the long lasting issue for me has been pain in the shoulders and neck. I have been on some type of pain medication since just after surgery. It was the ONLY way I could continue to work and support myself. The weather and temperature change may also affect your neck. I call them Flareups. It will feel like the top of your shoulders are really tight and aching then move lower between the shoulders. It happened every year like clockwork. In closing; try not to overdo it. Give the body time to adjust and try to be very aware of how you are moving. I wish you the very best and I bet you are happy that the Severe Pain is over. The Pain doesn't stop entirely, it changes in to something different though. Good Luck.
