Hi everyone,
Not sure if anyone uses this forum any longer, but I would love some feedback on an issue I am having.
Here is my situation...after a bad fusion surgery done using a new" less evasive " method in 2007, my disk that was herniated broke into pieces. One of the pieces was not recovered during the surgery and became lodged in my S1 nerve root. After 8 weeks of recovery and this horrible pain ( worse than before surgery) they discovered the lodged disk. When going back in, they discovered it could not be retrieved without potentially paralyzing me. Instead they did a laminectomy in that area hoping to release some pressure on the piece of disk. No luck. Fast forward 8 years of massive pain meds, shots, nerve blocks, PT, message therapy, tens unit, etc. My dr states he cannot provide me any more pain meds because my dosage will be to high for TN law, and the only way I can continue is through the pain pump. 1st pump was placed a few weeks later. Had a slight tilt and moved a bit in its pocket but served me well for almost 7 years. Last Nov I had a new pump placed in the same location, right front abdomen. This pump actually does full rotations and flips at times. I am almost 1 year post surgery now. Many times I go to bolus on my PTM and it cannot find the pump unless I physically use my hand on my abdomen and grab the pump and flip it. Telling my Dr this, he has ordered a dye study, which came out fine, no leakage. Here is my issues, maybe someone has similar things happen, or has suggestions. I am on a high dose of fentanyl, but lately I am having more pain and a lot more issues with my toes tingling. Twice in the last month I have had hours of excruciating pain, electric spasms shooting through my legs into my toes, extreme cold that is only inside my body, I have sweating on the outside and freezing on the inside. Both times this has happened I had hard times reaching my pump with my PTM. I am wondering if any one has heard of the lines getting twisted from the pump and the spine, cutting off the meds to the body. Making that person go into extreme pain and withdrawal symptoms? Anyone heard of that, or have any suggestions for me?
