I had surgery to realign an ankle fusion 7 days ago. I had pain while walking, the ortho do though the tibia was rubbing against my hardware , so he said a simple 30 minute surgery to shave the tibia back would resolve the pain. So I agreed to it. When he got in there he found a nerve encapsulated deep into my distal tibia, and he could not cut it out, so he cut the nerve. Now I have severe nerve pain firing from the top of my foot. He told me to take Gabapentin, which causes me to be an angry out of control person, and it doesn’t relieve my pain, it makes it worse, and now I have severe pain in my arms and shoulders. This nerve fires so violently, that is wakes me up, if I can sleep. Another side effect from 300 mg of gabapentin 3x daily. He only gave me 15 5 mg norco for post op pain.i took the last one yesterday. The doc refuse to refill my pain meds, and doesn’t believe me that I have an8/10 nerve pain in the top of my foot. I’m desperate. I’m a 76 old woman who walked 5 miles a day. Now I’m in constant pain with no relief. I use ice and heat, but depression has set in and I’m stuck with nerve pain for the rest of my life?? I’ll never have another elective surgery. What do you people do to relieve nerve firing pain? Am I doomed?
