GRRRRRR follow up a waste of time

Went for the MRI yesterday, and then to the doctor this morning, which was a complete waste of time and money.  The doctor comes in and starts rattling off words I have no idea what they mean, but I got the gist of what he was saying.  I have scar tissue from the surgery (WELL DUH!!!!!!) and when I asked him why am I still hurting so bleeping bad, he was like (sruggin shoulders) I dont know.

Well that put a great impression on me.  So he gives me some different anti-anflamitory meds and sends me on my merry way.  So I left and went to the van and cried for 15 minutes before I came back to work.  Now what do I do???? I left there fellling like I was a fool and should not have bothered him by coming in.  If he has "no idea" why I'm hurting what am I suspose to do.  Yea know when you were a kid and you did something really stupid and someone caught you and how embararrased you felt, well times that by 100, thats how I felt when I left the office.  Even when the nurse came in at first she made me feel about 1/2 inch high when I told her I still hurt.

Ohhhh welll I'll go home and cry somemore and get  more p o'd than I already am.

Read my post on my follow-up. I can relate. I felt my follow-up was a waste as well. I got no where with him. I too am in pain and instead of telling me why, he just went around in circles. And of course now I feel dumb because I had all these goals and plans and went in there and like forgot everything!

Well, I am no doctor, but maybe I can help. Scar tissue can cause pain if it is hitting a nerve. It can cause the nerve to inflame and causes pain. So the medicine he gave you could help. Try heat, moist heat if you can.  Where is the pain at? For me it is my head and neck.

Good luck! Vent all you need, sometimes that is what we need!

Thanks holmesla I had back surgery in April. it was L3 and L4 rupture disc. There are times I could just scream and run and hide. Hubbies father is a doctor and I'm gonna get him to look at the MRI for me.

Hi Trouble, how you are feeling a bit better.

I think it would be a good idea to have your Father-in-law look at the MRI results and I'd get a copy of the results and the Dr's chart notes from this last visit and maybe all of your visits so he can read through those as well.

I have scar tissuse on my kidney and they had trouble getting in on the last operation so I got an extra scar - just what I need! I also have some on scar tissuse on my knee (from a ski accident) which still hurts and I don't know if it is the pin or tissuse. Moist heat and light massage seem to help some.

When I am at the Doctor's I have learned to ask "So, then what are all my options?" That seems to get MOST Doctors to tell me what they are in plain English!

Hope you can find some relief and that your Father-in-law can get it figured out!

Trouble and Holmesa,

Just a question for you, I like you also deal with nerve pain.  The best medicine that I was able to find other than surgery is nerve block medicine.  This doesn't fix anything, but it blocks the pain signals from the injured area to your brain, so you feel as if you are in less pain.  Also, I have had neurolysis, radiofrequency surgery and that is where a pain Dr. injects your nerves with needles and in 6-8 weeks they die.  There is no guarantee for the length of time, they say most people have relief for a year.  I had it done last August and it helped for 6 months and I am having it done again this month.  This may be an option for both of you, not sure though.  My affected area is t1-t5 so i'm not sure if it depends on the location of the injury, but I think it might be an option.  I have read both of your stories and I think maybe this could help.  Sorry abt. both of your appointments, that sucks, I have had my share of upsetting appointments as well.  As for the headaches when you are home there are migrane patches that stay cold for abt. 8 hrs. over the counter, they do give some relief you might want to give them a try.  Well I wish you both luck in finding your answers.  Take care!

Thanks Afloat for the info... I'm going to take the MRI's to my father in law this weekend and let him look at them for me. Hoping is just the scar tissue and he can give me some ideas

Crossing fingers toes, and everything else i can do :)

I recently had that done, the radio frequency, where they burn your nerve endings, and unfortunately it was unsuccessful. I am not sure if he did it to the wrong nerves or what. I am going to see a neuro surgeon in two weeks so hopefully I will get more answers with him.
