working/driving etc while taking narcotics

Hello

I am having trouble finding information in my state about driving and working, etc while taking narcotics for chronic pain. short of seeing a lawyer, everyone has a different opinion.

I was told that if you are in a accident, you will be tested, and no matter if your drug level is within prescription amounts, you would still be considered "under the influence"

I was also told that those who take narcotics on a routine basis must declare it to your employer during the hiring process (I can't believe that's true...I thought this would violate disability laws).

Has any of your doctors discussed what you can/can't due while taking narcotics as far as working, driving, etc?

I am finding that the laws are ancient, and there is not enough education out there for us CPers in regards to what we are able to do while still taking the meds we need to function.

I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say.

CHUTZ is right they cannot ask you these question.But I would like to point this out My Insurance told me that in the event I have a car wreak and I am found to have drugs in my system leagel or unleagel it would go against me and they will not pay any claims.I was also told that even if it was not my fault that I would loose my Insurance if found that I was under the enflues(sp)of a narcotic and my driver liesens as well.
