pain contract Urine test

 

Hello everyone I hope all are as pain free as possible

I need some knowledge help or advise on a incident that occured with my pain Doctor appointment today

Firstly I like most have signed a pain contract, and have a urine test with every appointment

I have been having these drug urine tests for over 2 years with no problem or questions about the results from the Doctor

Today he was looking at the results of sever urine tests and he asked me if I was taking my meds which just floored me I answered yes as perscribed and that was it nothing more was said

This has be really bugging me as to why he said this the urine test must show I have been taking my meds as he renewed my perscription

I take three 40mg Oxycontin per day with up to 3 oxycocette per day for any breakthrough pain

Do these urine screen/tests not only show the type of perscription drug taken but dose it also show the amount of the pain medicine in your body

My appt was in the early morning so I did not take my morning Oxycontin because I do not want to drive on it

My appt are ussually in the early AM and I waite till I get home to take my morning dose of Oxycontin because I do not want to take it and drive

I do and always have taken my medication as perscribed never ever take more than perscribed or anything and have been taking these urine tests for over a year with no questions until today

My main question is DO or CAN these urine tests show the amount of medication in your body and are they accurate

Also can different people metabolize medications at a different rate and expell them from the body

Please ANY information or answer s to these questions would be very much appreciated as this is really bothering me I do exactly what my Doctor says with these med s as I need them and would not ever do anything to jeprodise them

Interesting question...so I did some searching online. I found a good article about urine test in reference to pain management. Sounds like they have to choose what chemicals to test for at test time. Here's the link...hope it helps answer your question...

Hi Bob- I post on crohns but saw your post and wanted to chime in because I worked as a corrections officer. We would periodically drug test kids and if they tested negative for something they were prescribed we knew they were cheeking their meds and giving them to another inmate. So I know sometimes a negative drug test can be "bad" because it means the drug wasn't in the system. I also worked as a tracker and when clients had positive drug tests I would get a number as to how much of that drug was in the persons system. That worked really well to determine whether they continued using. With a simple positive/negative we wouldn't know if it was from that same incident or a new one. But if a client came up possible w/ a 300 level of cannabis and 3 days later had a 400 level I would know she used again. I am not sure what kind of test your doctor uses but it is possible to measure levels. Their concern with whether or not you are taking your meds would be to make sure you weren't diverting them. However, if you take them daily and just hadn't taken your morning dose that one day you should still have sufficiently high levels. You may want to let your doctor know that you don't take it and drive. Actually, I am surprised that was not one of your doctors requirements. I hope it all works out for you.

By the way, any of the test I administered measured for classes of drugs, not individual drugs.  For example, Benzodiazipines was one class but I wouldn't know which particular benzo the person had taken.  The only specific drugs tested were marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, and LSD I believe.
