Pain in lower right intestinal area

I was diagnosed with CD in November of 2005 and have gone through many bouts of yucky bathroom visits. Lately, I have been having problems in the morning and late afternoon and have been having pain in my lower right hand side with bulging. I'm not sure if the intestinal area is just inflamed or if the pain is just from the CD. I'm taking 12 Asacol a day to keep the CD under control so I'm not sure what's going on. Anyone else having the same issue?

Hello and Welcome to Healing Well and the Crohn's Forum.  I am Kitt. I am sure you will meet many warm and caring members here. These members know where your coming from and what your going through.

From what you have described, I would like to suggest that you see your physician if you have a bulging in that area.

Yes, many of us do have lower right side pain. It is quite common for us actually. It is so common and typical for me, that I almost dismissed it recently and it was in fact appendicitis. What concerns me with your description however is the "bulging" aspect. I would definately call your doctor about that.

I have had pain in the lower right quadrant since I was diagnosed, and the extent of the pain and tenderness of the area depends on how much I am flaring.  It has gotten worse recently, and I have a bit of an inflamed mass in that area.  After a colonoscopy and consult with a surgeon, I am now scheduled for surgery next week.  My surgeon was very concerned about the mass as she said it may indicate infection with an increased chance of rupture.  She has put me on antibiotics (Cipro and Flagyl) along with my normal meds (Entocort and Imuran) and that has helped to reduce the mass a bit.

I would get it checked out sooner rather than later.

The bulging does sound suspicious and should be checked out. Doctors always press on my daughter's side and then, when they lift their hands, ask if it hurts not when they press, but when they lift. This is rebound pain and could indicate an abcess.

Sorry to hear about your pain!  Like others, I would get the pain checked out immediately!  The exact same thing happened to me last month.  After lots of lower right abdominal pain, I woke up one morning with a large bulge, that was also very red.  I got an urgent CT scan and by the next day I was in the hospital on IV antiobiotics - infection!

I am happy to say that I went to the DR today, finally! My GI DR said that the diseased area in my small intestine is inflamed causing the pain. He has perscribed Entocort for the next 3 months with a follow up in March. Let's hope it works!

Good luck with the Entocort. It took a few weeks to eliminate all of my daughter's RLQ pain, but put her into remission. We loooove Entocort. The bennies of pred without all the side effects.

I'm anxious to start just to get rid of the pain and the running to the bathroom. The pharmacy didn't have any on the shelves today so I'll pick it up tomorrow. I'm glad it worked for your daughter! Thanks for the reply!

LRQ is the most common location for CD. It is where the terminal illieum (sp one of these days I will look it up and try to remember) is and the valve connecting the small intestine to the colon is. Good luck and hope the endocort works. I know I did well on it.
