Arthritis?

I was reading a letter from my GI to my family doctor and he describes me as having spondyloarthropy. Is this the "Crohn's arthritis" that my family doc refers to? I have heard of anklodising spondolytis (sp?), is it this?

Have you seen a Rheumy doctor yet? I was diagnosed with os arthritis and have crohn's.

I have the same diagnosis and it is my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) that it is the same as inflammatory arthritis associated with Crohns. I was diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis. Many of us also have a Rheumatologist as well as a GI for our Crohns care.

There are six types of spondyloarthropathy [SpA]. SpA is also called spondylitis. Ankylosing Spondylitis is one of the SpA diseases. Enteropathic Arthritis is a form of chronic, inflammatory arthritis associated with the occurrence of an inflammatory bowel disease like CD or UC. It is one of the SpA diseases too. Each of the spondylitis diseases has similar symptoms but with some different manifestations. You might want to read about both Enteropathic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis at the Spondylitis Association of America's web site. They have really good information. I don't have a Rheumy yet, but I will have to look into that. Sometimes my family doc needs a little gentle prodding. Thanks to you all for your responses. The web site you suggested was extremely helpful, Ides.

This problem with my SI joints has been around since my last year of high school. It actually was present about one year before my first Crohn's flare. In all these years though it has been pushed to back, as I was so ill with Crohn's, not only that but I was on so much prednisone that often it didn't bother me much at all. It has now been two years since I have had prednisone and it has progressed quite a bit.

In any case, thanks for the help. Knowledge is power.
