One day until I start Humira, and...

... I come down with a sore throat.

I'm concerned that my GI is going to say, "Nope, can't start the Humira until you're better." I've been waiting so long. I really hope this doesn't happen, but I think there's a good chance of it since Humira lowers your immune systems response and ability to fight off infection.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I just got off the phone with 800-4HUMIRA's "talk to a nurse" line. The nurse said that they do not recommend that anyone starts taking Humira with *any* sort of active infection. : (

Oh, no...after waiting for patiently...now this. Do not start Humira as they recommended. You will get sicker than a dog. A couple of months ago, I had a little bit of a scratchy throat which I thought was due to the wind and fire storms all around where I live (Southern California.) Well, I wasn't thinking and I took my Humira. Woke up a couple of hours later with a high fever, extremely sore throat, headache, and more. My throat and neck got so swollen I looked ridiculous and could barely talk. I just got sicker by the minute and finally broke out in a red rash all over my body. Anyway, I had Strep Throat with Scarlet Fever. I got better with the antibiotics and prednisone (to bring down the swelling and rash) after a while, but boy was I stupid to take my Humira.
I am so sorry, but you will get better and you will be able to take your Humira soon. Oh, and your Humira will make you better soon I hope.

I'm not running a fever, and I actually feel pretty well. I just have a darn sore throat, and my left ear is congested. It seems like I'm always getting upper respiratory infections. Since I have mitral valve prolapse, I always start a course of antibiotics at the first sign of a UPI. So it's either bacterial (and will get knocked out quick by the Levaquin), or it's just a head cold. I've been dosing up on Vitamin C, too. I know this isn't the greatest idea, but I'm not going to tell my GI about the sore throat tomorrow. I'm going to start the Humira anyway. I can't go back to work until I have at least a 30 day history on the Humira, so I have plenty of time to get rid of a sore throat. Yeah, it might be a nasty one, but oh well. Great excuse for the wife to pamper me (more than she already does). : )

If I don't start tomorrow, I have to wait another month. I have to do it at the GI's office. He's booked a month out as of now.
