Hi my 12 year old son had his blood results back which showed no signs of inflammation yet the doc still suspects crohns. How can this be? Anyone else like this?

There really is no one telltale sign of Crohns . . . it's a menu of symptoms and readings that show up in different combinations at different times. I have never had bloodwork that pointed specifically to inflammatory markers, yet have had mild to moderate Crohns for 40 years, as diagnosed by symptoms and repeated scopes and biopsies. Doctors have to look at the whole picture. Bloodwork markers are only a small slice of that picture. Don't get discouraged . . . they really are much better at diagnosing and treating this disease than they were even a decade ago.

i had an elevated white blood cell count with low and high nuetrophils and lympocytes or whatever they are called. I also have postive ASCA antibody tests and positive promethus too. But like the guy above said wasnt enough to diagnose it. finally found it 3 coloscopies later and 2 down the throat later. So unfor. he will have to endure test after test until they can find it. Took them about a year for me. Try to stay off medication easier said that done i know until they find it. STeriods do their job and cover up much needed stuff they need to locate and find to diagnose it. hang in there

I know there are many people that are believed to have Crohn's disease by symptoms alone and ruling out other diseases or causes for the sx.  My hubby was dx in surgery as Crohn's can mimic Appendicitis. Surpise for us but this was 31 years ago. Take care and keep posting.

That makes me wonder if my appendectomy 10 years ago was really necessary...

As others have said... it's really a combination of tests and the respective results that leads to a Crohn's diagnosis. My GI diagnosed mine by tissue biopsy (obtained during a colonoscopy) results and the Prometheus test.
