Everytime I get in a jam about what to do I turn to this group.  A friend in need is what I am.  My daughter is only 10 years old and the dx has gone from yes it is crohn's to maybe it is not.  She has trouble controling her bowels when they are flaring.  She even went in her sleep and didn't know it.  She has the same trouble with her urine.  If she is having stomach symptoms she sometimes can't make it to the restroom in time and wets herself.  Next I think she may be starting her period but she has had so much blood from her bowels it is hard to tell( but she is having brown tinged spotting).  I know girls can spot for several months before they start but right before the spotting her bowels and stomach went crazy and she was throwing up and severe D.  She takes Pentasa 1500 mg twice a day and also Nexium 40 mg twice a day and zofran & hyoscyamine as needed.  Please, if anyone can help me I would truly appreciate it. confused

I am so sorry that your daughter is so ill with this disease.  She  is so young to be this  sick.  I do not have the asnwers to the spotting, it is hard to tell but perhaps someone else may have info on this.

10 seems young to me so if you are suspecting some bleeding you may want to talk with her physician. Just my 2 cents worth.

I feel the same way. Could it be a fistula? Do they bleed? Just wondering.

I'm sorry your daughter is so ill. How horrible for her, and for you. I, like you, am worried about the vaginal spotting. Unfortunately, this could be a sign of a rectovaginal fistula (or, much less common, a colovaginal fistula), in which feces and/or blood can pass from the rectum or the colon into the vagina. At age 10, that might be more likely than starting her period, unless she is a very early developer, and is already showing signs of puberty.

I started my period at 10, and it's even more common now.  It's all the hormones in our conventional meat and dairy.  The hormone fluctuation right before/during our periods cause many of us to flare, so that could be what happened with your daughter.  I'd mention it to her doctor at your next appointment.

Depends how big they are. Can be just spots if they are very small.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it very much. She has some pubs growing but no underarm or leg hair. So it makes me worry. Does the fistula get worse then better or does it stay the same. This is all so new to me. I learn everyday but I seem never to be on top of this stupid disease. Ya'll are so kind.Thanks again

i started my period at 10 as well. However, the first thing i thought as well, was a fistula. I have an rv fistula and it's not necessarily blood, sometimes u just pass mucus thru it that can be brown or looks like dried blood. U should ask if she's noticed air coming thru her vagina...like she's passing gas through there. That's how I found out I had one. I hope she gets better...i was dx'd at 14 so I know it must be even more stressful at 10. My prayers are with her
