According to health canada there are no other similar products. It's by Shire Canada. (they also made adderall) In Cosmo's (drug company not the magazine) there's a press release (http://www.cosmopharmaceuticals.com/csm/news/press/pr2006/2006-12-19/) that states it's a once daily oral medication that induces endoscopic and clinical remission of mild-to-moderate [symptoms]. This technology allows the delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients into the lumen of the colon in a delayed and controlled extent with the effect that the active drug can be applied to the full length of the colon. A pH-sensitive acrylic copolymer delays the release until the tablet reaches the indicated intestinal location where the dissolution of the drug begins.
