is anyone hypothyroid?

Hi Bunny! What do you mean your thyroid was "low?" Because if it was your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) that was low, that actually means you are HYPERthyroid. If your TSH was high, that means you are hypothyroid. Yes, it's very weird.

I have Grave's disease, which is autoimmune hypERthyroidism, which means your heart starts beating about 23987 beats per minute, you lose a pound of body weight every 10 minutes, you're insomniac, tremulous, and have hyperactive reflexes. Basically your metabolism shoots up beyond belief. That is no way to live but thank goodness I am easily controlled with meds. Hypothyroidism is usually also easily controlled with meds and causes opposite symptoms - weight gain, lethargy, excessive drowsiness, etc. But then again no two people's symptoms are the same.

You can only tell if it's autoimmune thyroid disease by looking at the "thyroid profile," complete with the thyroid antibodies. Those with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (autoimmune hyPOthyroidism) or Grave's (autoimmune hypERthyroidism) will have dramatically increased thyroid antibodies. Lots of other conditions can also cause whacky thyroid numbers, however.

I have hypothyroidism, but it was deemed "natural" and not auto-immune related.

I am borderline hypothyroid. My TSH was about 8. However, my Thyroid antibodies were 4+. I think now they call this "subclinical hypothyroidism". When I was tested I had a doctor willing to treat me because he said it could easily be missed. I take 0.075 mg levothyroxine daily with annual TSH levels- has to be the easiest problem I have to treat.

I am hypothyroid because I am growing nodules on my thyroid and they are slowly killing it. It is not auto-immune related.

I just started thinking about the same thing recently. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 10 years ago and have been taking synthroid since. I am not sure if it's related to the Crohn's which was diagnosed about 12 years ago. I started wondering if the thyroid issue is just the hypothyroidism or is actually the autoimmune disease type (Hashimoto's thyroiditis). I am not sure if I am more vulnerable to this type since I already have one autoimmune disease with the Crohn's. I guess I should have that checked out.

I was also dx with Graves a year ago. After having CD for 8 yrs. My heart literally felt like it was pounding out of my chest and my hands shook really bad. After a few visits with the endo and been on Atenol and PTU i feel sooooo much better. I was just wondering. Has anybody taken the Radioactive Iodine? I have talked with the endo about this but i'm hesitent.
