Finally made an appointment with disability services

I made the appointment today with the campus disability services. I'd toyed around with the idea, getting a letter from my GI before coming up here, but was feeling so well after starting Humira that I didn't make the appointment. But, after a few rough days reminding me of what could happen, I made the call and have an appointment scheduled for next Monday. :-)

Kudos to you for making that appointment.  It is proactive and I am proud of you. Anytime you can advocate for yourself it is a good thing.

You will be so happy you did this if something unexpected happens-like you have a flare the day of your finals...

Anyway there is an old saying that what you prepare for never happens. Now that you have prepared for needing disability services on campus hopefully you won't ever need it.

I just started back to school and did the same thing! I asked for excused absences due to doctors appointments, remicade infusions and sick days. My campus' disability services have been wonderful!

Well, the appointment went really well. My disability counselor was great, and he got the letters written while I was there so I didn't have to come back for a second appointment just to get the letters. He also assured me that if I didn't want to talk to the professors about the specifics of the disease, I didn't have to. I'm usually not shy about letting people know that I have Crohn's and what it means, but it's nice to know I'm not required to do so.

Basically, I have breaks during class and tests when needed and attendance flexibility. All the professors I've given the letters to so far have been great as well.

I'm just sad that I didn't go and do this last semester, since it was so painless.

Glad you got that done. My Daughter waited a semester too long before she ran to register. Campus Disability Services gives you the breathing room you need when health is not going so well.

My Daughter did tell many of her Professors over her years in College about her IBD. Made them even more willing to help when needed. Many went above and beyond the call of Duty under Disability Services.

Onward and upward with less stress knowing Disability Services has your back!! yeah
