Am I over reacting maybe?

My 5 year old daughter has been having issues with going poop since she was pretty much a baby...and now I noticed pretty much anytime she eats that she is complaining her stomach hurts...I am calling her pediatrician to have her checked for crohn's this week if possible. Am I just being paranoid because I have it and had the symptoms so long without being diagnosed? What do you all think and what should I ask the pediatrician?

There should be no paranoia in caring for your children, your doing the right thing doing whats best for them, there can be no harm in testing. :) My two cents

Definitely not being paranoid my Dear. Most definitely something to talk to your Daughter's Ped about to put them on notice especially with your own history. Not sure that they will jump right in and do testing, but maybe they will or maybe something they will keep a close eye at all future checkups.

My IBD Daughter (now 26) was pretty much constipated since birth. Her many Peds never thought it was a big deal. Increase fiber, yadda, yadda. She never had stomach aches or any other symptoms until about 16 and even then her complaints were not taken all that seriously. Was formerly diagnosed Crohns/Colitis at age 17 when more prominent symptoms started appearing.

and true milk protein allergy. it can (and has with my granddaughter) paralized her colon. to a point of malnutrition.

however, it can be caught with a simple blood test. not the colonoscopy we were told to go thru with her. (argh)

many food allergies will do this and present in odd ways, such as asthma, in her case cystic fibrosis symptoms, intense pain (which she had).....

mary, we heard all the same. apple juice,,miralax, and we ended up with 2 Tablespoons of mineral oil a day (12 lb baby) and she still could not go. it backed up and enlarged her colon badly. and yet, not one ped paid any attention, not to mention the pain she was in. did you hear "she will go when she needs to?" not!

My 7 year old has been having stomachs for about a year now...they even wake her up at night. I do NOT have stomach pain with my crohns, so she hever hears me say that my stomach hurts. They have done an upper gi with sbft, and has been tested for food allergies and celiac. Everything has come back fine. I just don't know what to do anymore. I know its not normal to have that many stomach aches and that severe. So, no you are not paranoid! :)

My Pedi and I have discussed that we are both aware of my daughter showing signs of CD. Fortunatly my Pedi has CD herself and treats other kids with it. Currently, we are handling it at home, because it is not at a point that she would needs meds. The other part for me - my daughter is a worrier and she is already concered about being "sick" like mommy or daddy (who has lupus). So I am talking to her that she is like mom and needs to be careful what she eats and makes sure she takes her fish oil pills, stuff like that. But she has not only had a couple of episodes that a heating pad and a trip to the bathroom took care of. Also, she has had great luck with the fish oil and if I can put off her being on meds I will. But that is what I am doing. My daugher is 8 and my mother says I showed signs as early as 6. They said I had a nervous stomach and put it off to being worried about what was going on with my mom at the time. We all know better know, but I just know the side effects of most of our drugs and if I can delay that for her I am going to. But my Pedi is fully aware of what is going on, so I also know that if I push it too far she will stop me.

My son was diagnosed but not until he was 12 and I wasn't diagnosed until I was 40.  His pediatrician refered us to a pediatric gastro and she was wonderful.  Doesn't hurt to check it out.
