Remicade, what's next?

Any ideas on what happens after Remicade? I mean, say I've been on it for five or so years and it's still working. Do you think doctors would consider pulling me off and seeing how it goes? What are the chances that it could eventually "cure it"?

I am afraid no chance of curing it. My Daughter has been on it for almost 5 years and only way she will get off of it is to move on to something else like Humira or ???. She is not an IBD patient that can be well without meds.

Some patients do take breaks from Remicade to see what happens. Some do well and others don't. Key is not to be off of it too long or it may not work once a patient tries to return to it when it is determined it is needed again.

Most definitely!! Got to really make the most of the really good health days and lay low on the nasty days. It can be such a roller coaster ride. Remicade has served my Daughter pretty well to where she can live a pretty normal life, but IBD never lets you forget you have it!!

climbs--Crohns is a chronic disease as you know but most Crohnies live a pretty good productive
life--the Meds. help control the disease but most are always on some kind of Meds.ifRemicade
works for you that great--as MaryS states Humira is another drug you can try,there are new drugs
coming on market all the time--just take 1 day at a time and live them to the fullest..best wishes.

I've been trying to do just that since my first hospitalization. There's just so much to know about and remember. Medicine, diet, side effects. Remicade seems to be working so far, but as with every thing, there are possibly horrible side effects. Maybe I just need a nap.
