I'm currently a Paralegal/Legal Assistant and it's very stressful at times.  When you hear Paralegal you think "she makes good money."  Not in this case.  I'm not making what a Paralegal makes.  I don't even do much of the Paralegal work.  I live in the valley in California and most Paralegals here are used as Legal Assistants.  With all the medical bills I have I'd like to be able to find something to do from home as well.  Maybe even eventually some work from home permanently.  This job doesn't offer part time but they work with me if I'm having "an episode" or if I have a doctor's appointment.  It's great but can't avoid the stress every day.  Anyone have any ideas?  All suggestions welcome.

I used to work in an attorney's office and know the stress related with everything that goes on in law firms!! Dealing with Clients and attorneys = stress x 10!!! haha I finally went back to school and became an esthetician, I really enjoy what I do now, but still wasn't making enough money to pay back all these medical bills. I just recently signed up for a "stay at home" type job, its with Initials, Inc. I've only been doing it for three weeks now and I've already made $250! Which isn't much, but I wasn't even expecting to make anything until the end of my first month. It might be a good idea for you, you can have your own website and sell stuff directly from that or Choose to have parties at people's houses. Its completely stress-free, a lot of fun, and it gives you an opportunity to make /work around your own hours! :)

How about medical transcription, there are companies out there that run the business and you get the work from them and get paid by them.

You can even run your own business but less stressful letting someone else do the bookwork.

If I had to work from home I would open a doggy day care!! Also, if you have enough skills to work as a real legal assistant couldnt you do most of your legal research from home? I am a second year law student and work for a law firm and occassionally work from home no problem.

I work from home (most of the time) as a web developer -- there's both design work and programming in that field. Any chance you could do some of your work from home a couple days each week? I don't know enough about your current field to know what's possible self-employment wise. I've been so fortunate to work from home, though. It's saved me oh-so-many times!

Fitzy, as a Paralegal you would think I'd do research and more drafting forms and pleadings, you know what I mean. But living where I live in the valley of Cali this town that I'm in, the Paralegals that have the option to work from home or part time in office and part time out of office have much more experience than I do and I'm talking over 10yrs experience. So in my position, I answer phones, prep documents for the attorney to put the language and law into it, and edit everything they put together...and send out letters. Research only comes to me when no one is available. Which isn't often. So now I'm looking for something a little less stressing and something I could possibly make a full time thing after I have a baby. (trying now) Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm looking to purchase a home computer and hope to find something I can do from home really soon.

I'm a paralegal and I work from home. I had my daughter in May 2005 and never went back to the office after that. I only work a few hours a month though. I have several clients that I deal with directly doing their corporate work and then I have some projects that the attorneys throw my way since I used to do them when I was there full time and it's easier to have me do them than train someone else. It sounds though like that wouldn't be an option for you at your current job?

The best thing I did for myself is create a job that allowed me to stay home.  I am a power seller.  When I am ill, I'm able to be ill, when I feel great I work hard.  I think all Crohn's patients should either be on disabillity or self employed.

i have the ability to work from home, but whenever I try it is so hard to stay motivated. I usually just come into the office anyway, so that I know I will get stuff done.

I work for a TPA (we handle insurance claims). Our company is setup pretty sweet, in that all our documents are computerized, so there is never any paper to deal with, except when I need to sign a letter before I mail it out. When I log in from home, my home computer looks just like my office desktop screen. Plus, our phone system works thru the computer as well, so clients, and claimant's think I am in the office.

I wish you luck finding something else you can do. I don't envy working in a lawyer's office, they can be so hard and demanding of their "help"
