Entocort side effects?

I've been taking Entocort for two weeks now and am wondering if my symptoms could be a side effect of the drug...  My Dr put me on it (along with Pentasa) because I was continuing to have intermitten bad cramping and some stabbing pain in my lower right abdomin. No D or C, just cramps and pain. That pain has stopped, but now I have pain in my upper abdomin, sometimes aching in my sides, and have a lot more gas.  Side effect of the Entocort? or Something else? If it's a side effect, will it get better?

Well, itf it helps any I read the fresh Pineapple is suppose to help with gas problems !!  I might have to start Endocort tomorrow and have had the same symptoms as above... the cramping and sharp stabs...  not nice at all.  Now I know what I have to look forward too  ;o)  pewwww

I've been on Entocort for close to 3 weeks now and haven't experienced the gassy side effect. If anything I have less gas.
I still have pain (left and right side) though.

The only out of the ordinary symptom I've noticed is I got cold-like symptoms for one day last week and I've been having night sweats. Not sure if it's the Entocort or the Pentasa though.

I have been on the Entocort for about three weeks. I have had the sore abdomen, gas(that really sucks especially when u share office space....hold it in and hope no one makes you laugh or sneeze). I have put on weight which I am NOT happy about, even though I haven't changed my eating habits. Anyone else gain weight from the Entocort? I also don't sleep well

I took entocort when I was first diagnosed and didn't get any side effects.....this stuff is much nicer than Pred.

Hello, Today is my 7th day with Entocort. I have had no problems so far. My second day on the meds, Pentasa as well, my abd. pain that I have had forever went away. Sometimes my lower lip feels tingly. I have been on Pentasa in the past and didn't feel this so I think that it is from the Entocort. Hope this helps. Kay

I *think* gas may be an indication of the state of your intestines, rather than a side effect of the medication.

Started Entocort three days ago and have been on Pentasa for almost a year now. Not noticing gas - my daughter will sure love that one, though. :)

As for the pain - not helping yet. Hope it knocks it out soon. I have a real jerk for a boss. If I miss work I am told I have an attendance issue; if I go into work and even grab my gut once, I am told I am unprofessional.

I was on Entocort for 2+ years after being on prednisolone for about 4yrs.

I prefer Entocort anyday. No side effects at all. No weight gain. No swelling, no moon face etc

Entocort pushed me into remission and azathioprine (imuran) maintained it.

Yup, the Entocort (and *especially* the prednisone) did the same thing to me. I adjusted to the Entocort rather quickly, though. The gas, abdominal discomfort (and noise) went away after about a week. The mood swings and insomnia went away after about three weeks. When the only steroid I'm on is Entocort, I don't even notice any side effects from it at all anymore. If you ever have to take prednisone, expect to have the same side effects, only worse. The mood swings and anger it gave me made it intolerable. I had to go off of it fast. Then I ended up having to take it again just over a month later. Surprisingly, I tolerated it much better the second time around. I'm currently taking 20 mg of prednisone and 9 mg of entocort every day, and I'm not having any mood swings at all. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not! The insomnia still sucks, though. Lunesta doesn't even touch it.

Give it some time. Make sure you let the people around you know that you are not in complete control of your emotional state right now, and that you don't mean most of the things you say.

I am 39 years old. Have had Crohn's since I was in 5th grade. Wasn't diagnosed until my freshman year in college. Crohn's stunted my growth. In the beginning I would go 1 week, maybe 2 before a BM. Felt like concrete coming out and was bloody. The end of my freshman year in college I had horrible pains; kidney infections; bladder infections. Found out I had a hole in my bladder brought on by a hole in my intestines. Had 18 inches of upper ileum removed. Grew 6 inches and gained 40 pounds in about 6 months after my surgery. Went almost 20 years with chronic D but no medications required. Just toughed it out. Valentine's Day 2007 was spent in the hospital for a week. Horrible stomach pains and threw up blood and had some blood in stool. Was my second trip to the emergency room in a week. Scar tissue from the 1988 surgery -- coupled with inflammation from CD -- closed my intestine enough to cause gas buildup that led to vomiting. Went on prednisone for about 5 months. Started out with 20 mg daily, then 15, 10, and 5. Have to say at first I never felt better when I started Prednisone. It was the first time I ever had normal BMs since I was a CHILD! Incredible experience. But the side effects were horrible. Turned into an instant emotional jerk. Did NOT sleep more than 3 hours a day. Also took Pentasa but it did nothing for me. Quit taking Pentasa about 3 months after prescribed. Weened down to 1 Prednisone and 3 Entocort pills daily; then 3 Entocort; then 2; then 1 entocort for about 4 months. Gained a little weight, remained a wee-bit irritable, but all-in-all Entocort was MUCH better than prednisone as far as feeling SANE and less emotional. Two weeks ago I came off of steroids all together and all went well for 1 week. On the 8th day I awoke to swollen ankles. I was scared to death that I had heart, kidney or liver problems that had been masked by the anti-inflammatories I had been taking for 13 months. Doc says my adrenal glands have gone on vacation due to the fact that the steroids were doing all the heavy lifting for them. Legs are tight, especially the inner thigh and hamstring area. Am told that it may take 4 to 6 weeks for the adrenal glands to get back to normal. Wearing TED stockings to increase circulation in blood and keeping feet elevated at night when going to bed. Sleep is wonderful again. Your body produces cortisone naturally ... from the adrenal glands ... and taking such a large dosage for one full year and one month has caused the swelling of my ankles and tightening of legs. Hope this post helps people with their own CD problems ... and with people who have been on steroids a long time. My gastro doc said Entocort shouldn't cause problems with sleep, but it DID! Glad to see other people had that problem, too ... Thought it was all in my head. My wish now is there was something that could help with scar tissue in my intestine from the 1988 surgery. I have to avoid beans, peas, etc., because the gas pains are horrible when I eat them. Milk also isn't good for me. Drink cranberry juice for vitamin C and take vitamins every day.
