I know it rarely helps to purely whine, but after reading a few posts about Humira and the bad side effects people attribute to it, I can't resist, so i thought I would chime in with my most hated Crohn's med:

Flagyl (metronidazole) aka nausea-maker aka gut-wrencher aka devil's drug

i am back on it for the time being and I can't stand it! however, I can't stand the fistulas even more, so such is life.

I always remember that I hate Flagyl, but was reminded a month ago when I was on it again. Lasted 10 days then I switched to Cipro. The side effects for Flagyl are the worst of any med I've taken! As if vomiting from the Crohn's weren't enough... throw in Flagyl. Sure, mouth tastes worse that imaginable, plus it makes me so nauseous! The combo, along with the Crohn's, is pretty much intolerable for me! (except when absolutely necessary!)

Okay, I agree with you completely, I was on it for 7 days and again 10 days within the last month. Luckily my doctor did a Colonoscopy and saw that I didn't need it. I hate Flagyl it makes me feel horrible. I can't exactly describe it either, but just yucky all around!

I was on it for about 3 months last year. Well, I hated the nasty side effects but, it saved my life. But I got tingly and sensitive feet so that's it for me.

After one dose many years ago, the nausea and dizziness were incredible. The doctor took me off it right away. Add to that the tongue fur which lasted for ages after - I hope I never have to consider taking it again. With the dizziness, I could barely stand up.

When taking Flagyl...if I could get off the toilet long enough, I MIGHT be able to tell if it's day or night!
It's a necessary evil at times but I put it right up there with the prednisone....just plain crappy!

Don't forget no alcohol w/ Flagyl or you will get super sick! Also for the ladies, Flagyl cancels out birth control (which is how my friend is pregnant with a little girl!!) so in the slim chance you feel randy on the Flagyl... use other protection... Finally - regarding the icky taste from Flagyl, I wrapped the pill in my little brother's fruit roll ups or fruit by the foot to make it more like a gel-cap. It really reduced the icky metalic taste in the mouth. I don't know if it effected the drug's release at all but frankly I could have cared less if it meant I didn't have to taste it anymore.

Flagyl is horrible!!  Not only the dizziness, horrible taste, and nausea...I could not concentrate on reading anything.  Even a recipe, I would read it, try to do step one and have to reread it because I could not remember what I had just read.  Hate it, that and prednisone!  As sr5599 said, my GI switched my to Cipro, I still felt slightly nauseaous but nothing like when I was on the Flagyl.  How this helps.

Flagyl sucks because it never comes coated and it melts instantly on your tongue and no matter how far back you put it, you can always taste it.

I just lied to my gi and told her i finished my flagyl - i never took it. (i know i'm bad--but i didnt need it that bad, she likes to throw it at me every time my fistula opens to drain).

I'm allergic to it - full fleged allergic reaction to it in the hospital -so no more flagyl for me. (The only thing is I hope I never get C-difficile because I hear flagyl is the only effective antibiotic for it)
