woman fistula question help help help

hey there.  i have had several peri-anal fistula's.  right now they are gone, but i was having weird pains by my crotch (sorry to be so explicate) so i got a mirror and looked down there.  anyways i saw an extra hole above my "regular" hole.  i took a q-tip and poked it and it's definetly a hole, i could poke the q-tip in there.  i'm assuming it's a vaginal fistula and mind you (sorry again to be vulgar)  it's on the outside of the skin about 1/4 to 1/8th inch above the vaginal hole....so i'm obviously going to the doctor but i wondered if anyone else had anything like this since my sister had one and it was way up inside her where it couldn't be seen. i have had weird sharp shuting pains up my vagina but brushed them off since they were random. also i haven't noticed any weird discharge or leaking of urine so i'm a bit confused about that, i would assume that if it's a fistula that would have happened.  but then again i don't know how else i would just get an extra hole down there lol.  anyways if anyone has thoughts or comments or similar experience that would be great seeing as though i'm reasonaly pretty upset about all of this.....thanks

I don't know about the hole but I do know exactly what kind of sharp pains you are talking about. I'd get them in the morning while driving to work and ignored it for years. I thought it was gas or just plain old pain. I have active disease there--peri anal and vaginal fistuals-- and really didn't realize what was happening with the development of more vaginal crohn's stuff. It all seemed to happen after all those wierd pains. Definitely tell your doc and show her/him what is going on---don't be shy.

Sorry I don't have anything to share about vaginal fistulas. But I see you've have advancement flap surgery. I have a fistula that is too high for other repair techniques. What was the surgery like? Did it work? My Dr. said it only has a success rate of 70 - 80% in CD people. I am concerned about abscesses if it doesn't work. I'd appreciate hearing about your experience!

thanks sammies,   fallcolors, well with me i stayed in the hospital over night, and honestly that surgery was the least painful, but that's not how it's supposed to be and they say it's the most invasive of the rectal surgeries.  anyways no it didn't work, i was fine for about 2-3 months and it came back.  so if you get this surgery i hope it works out better for you!!

Hi I agree with the others to get it checked out I had developed a fistula after abd. surgery and it was quite upsetting for me, not having to deal with one before. Perhaps some of the people who have had to deal with one will tell you what kind of Dr. you should see. One wonders with all the CD related parts we have.Hoping for the best for you. Glad to hear all your other ones are gone. What meds are you on or did they get corrected with surgery? Keep in touch and let us know how things are going. lol gail

right now i'm on entercort and pentasa but i have been on antibotics for the previous fistulas and they were corrected with surgery but they always came back-- minus the last surgery...although technically now there's this problem just in a different place.  i'm planning on seeing both my gastro doc and seeing my obgyn.  it just baffles me that i haven't noticed any leaking both poo type or the urine leakage since that's usually how you know you have one and i just happened to find it on chance.  but it must be a fistula since i don't know any other reason that a extra hole would be down there. it's just hard to believe since i don't want it to be true but i will deal with this like the other ones and plow though since there's not much else i can do about it

After reading your post, I am now wondering if it isn't something else. I was originally misdiagnosed by a Doctor who really had no clue (long story). He said it was Bartholn's gland cyst. Google it to find out more, but it could certainly result in a hole with drainage. I had never heard of this problem, but turns out it is common. It just wasn't at all what I had!
