 I am getting ready to give Humira a try, that is if I can get help from the pharmaceutical companies with it. ( I'm waiting on my apps. now ) Have any of you out there tried it and if so has the treatment been successful?

So far I have had great luck with Humira.Prior to Humira,my colon was completely inflamed,three mths afterwards,it was clear.Sometimes I get a rash and itchey,so I take Benedryl beforehand.

My one suggestion is to ice the area about 30minutes prior to the injection,and bring the Humira to room temp,I find that if I don't do this,it hurts really bad,but by doing this,it is much more tolerable!!

Left Remicade after being really sick and switched to Humira after three years of Remicade and getting really sick. Definiately feel much better. Bowel movements from 30 to 1-3. Pain from 10 to 1-3, liquid diet to regtular food. So all in all much better. Many on this forum suggest icing and room temperature you injection if it's a Pen before taking and I tried that yesterday and it helped alot. My husband gave me my injections, they hurt! I was giving myself shots of Methotrexate, but Humira stings for a while. So far so good. I wish you great success. What are you on now and how is it working???

  thanks for your reply. Regarding your question, right now I am on 14 different meds although they are not all for crohns. For the crohns itself I am on Pentasa, Prednisone, Questran, and Xanax to help me handle the stress better. I've tried just about everything but Remicade and Humira. I'm really hoping the Humira helps as I want off the prednisone desparately. I have been on it for almost 15 years now and have a lot of health issues related to it. High blood pressure, cushings syndrome, diabetes, mood swings, sweats, and multiple stress fractures just to name a few. I'm hoping the pharmaceutical company helps me out as if they don't there is no way I can try it. Thanks for answering!!!

Definitely contact MyHumira.com -- there are a bunch of hotline phone numbers there that you can call. There is a patient assistance card for Humira -- for those without insurance, basically making copays affordable for the first year of treatment, I think.

i take humira, and I post on it sometimes. I like the overall effects - BMs from 15-20 times a day to 5-6. Less blood, less urgency (though its still there).

I have a allergic reaction to he med though. Despite trying to move the injection from the stomach to the leg, I still get a hard red welt, raised about an inch above my skin, about the size of a salad plate. It gets bigger every time I inject (weekly) but goes down by the time I am ready to inject again.

Despite the reactions (also itchy and painful) its better than CD and I choose to stay on it.

For me Humira has been a God-send. My BM's are down from 15x day to approx. 2x per day, give or take. My last colonoscopy showed that almost all ulcers in colon had healed. I tried Remicade but after 2nd injection had really bad reaction, but I haven't experienced that in the 6 months I've been using Humira. I get all anxious every two weeks when it's "injection day" but the burn of the injection only lasts a few seconds and then it's gone. I can't say enough good things about Humira, it's been wonderful for my CD and my quality of life. Good luck!

I've been on Humira for over a year, and must say it really has worked wonders for me!  I too get an injection site reaction, but it's much better then having D all day(or in my case night) long!  I've put on a considerable amount of weight around my middle (which is never where I've gained it before) and believe it's because of the drug, but then again, it's much better then the alternative!  Good luck getting help with the drug!  I'm sure MyHumira.com can help you out!

I was on Humira for ~100 weeks with a weekly injection. It didn't do much for me. or so i thought. Then I got off of it and I really flared. But the humira didn't help me _enough_. and enough would have been to get off of the pred (i'd been on it for 8+ years). suffice to say, i'm on Tysabri now and it actually seems to work. But if the humira had worked better i'd have stayed on it. the injections weekly are a PITA. and I used to use the same site for each one (tummy, right side, 2" from belly button, 1/2" up). and once in a while i would forget to let the alcohol from the swab dry and it would sting like mad. but it wasn't _that_ terrible. in 100 weeks, i only cried once or twice while doing it. and that is just b/c we, as CD patients, get tired of being poked with needles.

I was part of the clinical trial for Humira and the open label study and just recently left both in January of this year, started on Humira. It seems to have stopped working, but that was after a great 3 years where it allowed me to do many of the things that seemed impossible before then. I was moved to a shot every week (from one every other week) six weeks ago and that does not seem to be working. Have a dr. appt today to discuss options.

I would definitely try it.
