crohns and pregnancy testing - need serious advice/words/knowledge

hi,

i was hoping someone can maybe help me with something. a while back i was having a bad flare up with my crohn's and my period was late. i did 4 home tests and one urine test at the dr. and each time showed positive. after days of panicking and being completely freaked out as being pregnant was simply not something i wanted. i finally did the blood test at the dr's office (which i just should have done in the first place and of course it was negative). in that time i lost my boyfriend of 5 years as he actually thought i was lying and it could never be possible that it could read positive then and suddenly not be pregnant. he assumed the whole thing was a lie and i never heard from him again.

i have been doing a bit of research online and with my doctor and it seems that it is a common thing with someone with crohn's as the hormones are un-balanced when it is active.

i guess i am really just wanting to hear if this has actually happened to anyone, hear there story maybe. i came across this site and hoping it can shed some light.

First off welcome to Healingwell. I have 3 daughters. Between daughter 2 & 3 I thought for sure I was pregnant. Doc did pelvic exam and if I am not mistaken a urine test that said I was pregnant. about 1 week later came my period, I wasn't pregnant. So yes I think that sometimes those false positives can happen. P.S. I had all three of my girls after my diagnosis.

I have no information on this but I just wanted to say I am so sorry this happened to you. I wish your doctor could explain this to your ex but if he doesn't trust you it doesn't sound like he should stick around anyway. What an emotional rollercoaster you went through.

I realize this is no help or comfort, but is it possible that you had an early undetected miscarriage?  I have not heard anything about false positive pregnancy test results with Crohn's.  If you have a link to information on this, I would be very interested in reading it though.

You also could have had what is called a "chemical pregnancy". The hormones show that you are, but in reality you are not. I'm sorry your boyfriend thought you were lying. If you google "chemical pregnancy" you can get more information on it. I don't think it has anything to do with the Crohn's (just my opinion), but it IS something that can happen just because you're a woman.
