Since I have been overly stressed about my upcoming resection, I have decided to create a top ten reasons to look forward to the surgery. Here's number 1:

The pain pump!!!!

This may make me sound like an addict but after 8 years of constant excruciating pain I look forward to just pressing a button to get rid of pain for however long that last. Hopefully it won't cause constipation, but hey I hope to be so in lala land that I don't feel it anyway!!! yeah

Well, you "could" ask them to save that piece they remove to let you see it and how sick it looks. Then allow you the PLEASURE of tossing it in the trash. *wicked grin*

So here the #2 reason:

HOSPITAL STAFF- Although it gets  annoying sometimes with vital signs every 15 minutes, being able to press a button for someone to bring me apple juice, ice cream, a blanket or anything becomes very addictive. When I go back home I try to get my family to do it but they quickly remind me that I am home and not in the hospital. They love me but people taking care of me in the hospital is the closet I will every get to feeling like royalty or J.Lo.

Oh the blankets. I went to the ER a couple months ago and I was so cold. They brought a thin blanket right out of the dryer to put on me. It was so comfy.

Hospital ice cream- for some reason the ice cream in the hospital taste soooo much better!!! Maybe its because it comes after days of broth and Jello, lol. But I look forward to it everytime...

My teen took good care of me when I came home hope you get some help too. It is comforting though to have someone help at the hos. the back washes were great. lol gail

I do have a great family. My husband will go to the end of the earth for anything I needed and my kids, 15y/o girl 7 and 12 y/o boys, are o use to taking care of mom. But I feel bad always running them ragged. I live 8 hours away from family and my mom,sister and 2 aunts will be here next week to help me during the surgery. So I am blessed.

BUT I STILL LOVE HOSPITAL ICE-CREAM!!!!!!

First of all thanks for all the support..I wish I had found this site years ago...but now that I have I hope I can help someone else going thru the ups and downs

THE ADJUSTABLE BEDS!!!!!!

As someone who has a lot of joint pain related to the disease sometimes finding a way to sleep can be hard..that is if I can sleep at all. But in the hospital I can raise my legs or head to the perfect position..LOVE IT!!!! I also take my own body pillow and queen size fleece blanket so it is just heaven. I brought a Woolrich brand blanket from target about 2 years ago and with my anemia it is my best friend. All the staff loves it. Sometimes when I go for test I pray that it is still there when I return. So far so good...maybe I should install a Lo-Jack on it just is case.

I can't afford to buy an adjustable bed for home so I just enjoy while I can during admits. Talk to you guys later.

Good luck Nicole with your surgery! It's great that you've got an up-beat attitude. That is definitely in your favor. Keep your spirits up and know that we'll be pulling for you.

New Pajamas- my mother is from the old school, so she won't let me be in the hospital with old pajamas. Due to my frequent admits I now have more pajamas then regular clothes. But its always nice to get new stuff. tongue

Nicole I pray your surgery goes well and you are able to enjoy a long long remission afterwards. Love your positive outlook. I too have a wonderful husband who babies me too, its so nice isn't it. The kids, oh well, what can you say.....gotta love em

Hi I have collected 5 new pairs of pj's and a housecoat from 2 operations . Some are so soft and warm I too love comfort. lol gail

Well wishes from family and friends-- we all lead hectic, busy lives but when I go in the hospital sometimes I speak to loved ones I haven't talked to in a while. Just reminds me that I am never alone in this crazy world. I was in the hospital for 21 days Jan/Feb 2007 and in just one day I got 22 phones calls, all from different people. The operator finally called my room to say I had broken a record, she was so impressed. Even more so because 90% of the calls were long distance.

Due to recuperating from the surgery this time all phones calls will go to my husbands cell instead. But I look forward to the messages. tongue

Hi Cheergems. You might want to bring your cell phone and turn off the hospital phone. The hospital line has a very loud ring, but your cell phone you can put on silence and then return the calls when you feel up to it. Good luck with your surgery!

I was able to use my cell phone during my hospital stay. I asked the nurse to make sure it was OK and she said there was no restrictions on cell phone use, at least on the surgical floor.

BEAUTIFUL FRESH FLOWERS- I don't usually have flowers around the house 9hard enough to keep 3 kids, a husband and 1 dog alive), so I love the flower deliveries. They make the room smell good and I love passing them on to other patients on my way out.

I have been having the worse stomach pains lately. The percocets are not working. Hoping it is just anxiety about the surgery.

Ski Bum- happy to see you are recovering well. Thanks for the phone advise. My hospital does allow cell phones on the floor. In the past they were wary of new technology but now they say it is fine. Get better soon.
