Curious Bleeding!

So I was under the impression that I've been doing pretty well lately. I had some inflammation in September/ October, but it was mild, and since then, apart from periodic daily troubles, I've been generally okay.

And I've felt totally fine for the past few weeks. So you can imagine my shock and horror at seeing the blood on the toilet paper this evening. There wasn't that much, but it was enough for my stomach to drop and panic to ensue.

But I don't understand it, because I really haven't been in any pain! In the past, the blood was the last thing to come, after crippling abdominal pain, and now there's blood and I'm just thoroughly confused.

Should I wait a few days to see if it was something different? I think it's possible that I have a cut on the inside of my rectum, or something. I don't know how I would have gotten it, but that was my first thought.

Or should I go to the doctor's right away?

I'm just really confused!

Hi,

I don't have any advice or insight as to why this is happening but I'm going through the same thing too.
I had a SBFT on Friday which caused diarrhea and bleeding. The bleeding lasted until yesterday (Sunday). I saw two different doctors for it and neither of them could figure out why I was bleeding or where it was coming from (even had an anoscopy and they couldn't see anything).

Was there a lot of blood? Or was it just on the TP? It's quite possible you have a hemorrhoid or even a small fissure. Are you still bleeding? Were you constipated or had harder stool when this occurred?

If it continues it probably wouldn't hurt to go in and see a doctor.

I agree that it sounds like a hemorrhoid.

I have hemorrhoids...my colonoscopy last January confirmed it (something like "insignificant internal hemorrhoids" in the report). I get the same thing at times--a little bit of bright red blood on the TP or a drop in the bowl after a BM. Sometimes there is a little pain, sometimes not. Usually it happens after a hard/large stool or if I strain. Straining or sitting at the toilet too long will aggravate hemorrhoids.

If this is "new" for you, it is worth mentioning to your doctor. A phone call is probably enough for now.

When I have been anemic, it has been from up high...an ulcer in my small intestine. But a couple of months ago, I had a similar episode where the whole toilet bowl was filled with bright red blood for two days, and no pain. I called my doc, who saw me right away, and on exam couldn't see any fissures or hemorrhoids, and he took blood work work which was normal. It resolved on its own, and we are assuming it was an internal hemorrhoid that was too high up to visualize. I hope it is that insignificant for you too, but I was scared. I hope everything is ok

I think it's probably hemmorroids, too... Sounds kind of like what happens with me... I've been getting quite a bit of blood on my toilet paper lately.... *And occasionally, I see some in my stool...*


Is there any burning or itching accompanied with it? Because that's what's happening with me, too... and I've been using Preparation H to help relieve some of that... seems like it helps...

gumby44 - When the ulcer in your small intestine bleeds, what colour is the blood? Is it bright red or more a dark red/brown colour?

I suspect my bleeding is coming from higher up (where my Crohn's is located) but my GI Dr said it couldn't because the blood would be brown. After finding out that my system moves fast I'm more inclined to think my GI doctor is wrong.

Your GI is correct, regardless of how fast your system moves, if bleeding is comming from higher up in the small intestines the color is a darker red...bright red bleeding could be from disease activity lower in the intestinal tract colon/rectom region or even from hemmies or fissures.

I have no Crohn's activity in my large intestine. My Crohn's is in my terminal ileum and possibly higher up.
I have had a fissure in the past but all of the doctor's I've seen have agreed that the amount of blood present (ie: A LOT) is not consistent with a fissure bleed and I don't have pain associated with it (also, all my bleeds have happened after a bout of diarrhea). I don't have hemorrhoids either. The anoscopy I had over the weekend didn't even show a fissure so where would all this blood be coming from? Also, isn't it a bit weird that I'd suddenly start bleeding again after my SBFT? (I haven't had a bleed that lasted this long since January)

Anyway, I'm not meaning to hijack your thread maria57! Hope you're doing ok!
