I've had Crohn's for 22 years and suddenly, I'm having chronic heartburn. I've been able to keep my condition stable with the use of Rowasa and cutting out certain foods like dairy products. A few days ago, I had my usual coffee in the morning with non-dairy creamer. In the afternoon, I drank a diet coke (this has never bothered me either) and about
an hour later, I had severe sharp pains all over my stomach and I was severely bloated. Thankfully, I don't have any bloody diarrahea. The next day, I cut out the pop and just had my morning coffee and later in the afternoon, I had the heartburn and pains again. Today, I had no coffee or pop (it was a tough day!) and it seems like no matter what I eat, I still get a little gassy and some heartburn. No sharp pains today though. Is this the end of coffee and pop for me? Vinegar too? Anybody have trouble with carageegan? Just wondering. I'm not a huge coffee or pop drinker but I do have my coffee every day and I love it...boo hoo!

I'm not as far into Crohn's as you, but still after 5 years of all the symptoms, I just started heartburn about
two months ago. It was the first time I'd felt that since the last month of pregnancy! I tried a two week course of Prilosec and it made a huge difference. I still have a couple days left, so I am curious what will happen when I am done with the course. But, for now it's great to lose the additional discomfort of the heartburn.
I am/was really sad to have it to deal with too. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that the Prilosec works and it does not relapse. The other stuff/symptoms are plenty enough!

i take aciphex for my heartburn, if i don't it doesn't matter what i eat i get severe heartburn. it's been that way since i was 13. my doc says that my heartburn might be the main problem for my CD. the acid buildup goes to my intestines and things slow down and sit in one place and fester. that's how she described it at least.
i used to take zantac or pepcid daily...it really helps too. but if your getting it frequently, u should take something daily, not as needed...it will help more.

I have acid reflux and crohn's. My GI prescribed losec which I took for 5 or so years, then I started Nexium. Both helped relieve the heartburn tremendously. I do take the Nexium daily, but I no longer suffer from heartburn, and I find it also settles my stomach.
Take care, and keep us posted!

Okay, so the weird thing is, my heartburn is now gone! Could a probiotic like Florastor really be the culprit? Somebody wrote to me and said that it was a good probiotic, but now good for crohn's patients.

i have never heard of probiotic causing heartburn....wow...but if you stopped it and it's gone...huh. i don't know, might want to put that past your doctor and see what they say.
i eat the live active cheese when i get heartburn, it has a probiotic in it and it helps me.

i get heartburn from caffeine, chocolate, tomatoes, onions and fried foods. and if i don't take my zantac 150 for it, it will last for a few days. did you have anything like that before the heartburn started? well, besides the normal caffeine? i very seldom drink caffeine but when i do it's usually green tea :)
