Well went to my GI yesterday after being on Humira for about 6 months and I was hoping to feel A LOT better not just better.  I'm still having pain and blah, blah, blah...we all know the symptoms.  Well my pain is a little higher then what I usually have so she thinks I could possibly have an ulcer from guess what....PREDNISONE!  Boy we can't win for losing! tongue

I am sorry to hear you may have developed an ulcer, your right, it sometimes seems like you can't win.  I am glad to see you still have your sense of humor with the smiley face.  Hoping the out come is positive for you.

I didn't even realize you could get an ulcer from prednisone! Sorry to hear! Hopefully all those month on Humira will show their benefit if you can treat that ulcer.

I think I'm getting an ulcer from prednisone as well - on omeprazole now...
Just got a flare-up two weeks ago and my doc wants me on remicade....Were you given a choice between Humira or Remicade? I would prefer to start with something more convenient (no need to go to clinic for infusion, etc.)

Eddie K., I am on Humira....my dr said that it has had less side effects than Remicade. Remicade is mouse-protein based wheras Humira is human protein based. Humira is definitely more convenient.
Ref this post about prednisone, I was on the stuff for about 7 months..and although I had many side effects, an ulcer wasn't one of them...I wish u the best with getting your ulcer healed!

I think the issue on Humira vs. Remicade is that Humira has been proven to work in some people who don't respond to Remicade first..Unfortunately, no studies are available that show that to be true if one starts with Humira first and then tries Remicade. Of course, with the newly approved drug (and Tysabri) we now have other options as well....
I think my doc will fight me on this but I'd rather go with Humira. In addition to the convenience and theoretical safety (human vs. mouse), I think it's better to take a drug that can clear within a week or two vs. Remicade that stays in your system for two months!

Eddie- I was on Remicade for about 4 years and it did great until I built up a tolerance and it no longer worked for me.  Humira was the next med on my list to try.  I was also in the Cimzia trial and that didn't work for me either.  I really think doctors like to try things in steps as they come available for us.  Remicade has been approved longer for Crohn's then Humira so they like to try that first...hope that makes sense!  :-)

I go for an EGD on the 14th to confirm if it's an ulcer for sure and not the Crohn's spreading.  Thank goodness I'm on the last of my taper with the dreaded prednisone... 3 more days at 2.5mg and counting!!!

Thanks. That does make sense...I understand that Remicade has been approved longer but also think Humira's side effect profile is somewhat better...Sorry to hear that Cimzia didn't work. Good luck coming off the pred...I'm at 35mgs and aiming to stop in 6 weeks...
