being a crohny in the city that never sleeps

i was diagnosed with crohns almost 3 yrs ago, during my last summer in college. i have lived in nyc since then and have tried probably every med out there, and pretty much every holistic approach under the sun...there are good and bad days/weeks and i have changed my life dramatically in order to function w all this...
i was just wondering if there are any other new yorkers out there dealing w this disease???
i work freelance jobs now, all in the fashion industry, but is very hard to make ends meet here, so you end up working like 4 jobs....all of which i love and are mostly on my terms (which also took about 2 yrs to really figure out). however, bc there is so much opportunity and so many things to do in nyc if you love fashion and art, it is really really hard for me to stay in bed all day when i am sick and not feel completely depressed!

i am usually such a outgoing and inspired person who is constantly seeing, doing and absorbing all that this amazing city has to offer.....but when your knees and ankles feel like they have just been struck by a hammer, it is rather hard to even walk around the block.

so i guess my question is if there are any other people out there in similar situations that i am?

and how do you get through your days?

it has taken me 3 yrs to muster up the courage to join a forum like this, so any advice at all would be so helpful.....

I livein NYc and I know what you mean about missing out on all the fun b/c you do not feel well or just tired.
I feel the same ways at times, so what i do is on days that I feel fine or better I try to do as much as I can; especially if it is a nice, warm, and sunny day. A day like today (rainy and dreary) I take it easy..so easy today that I took the day off from work to catch up on some much needed sleep.

I also try to plan ahead as much as possible/ if I know I am going to be doing something at the end of the week I try to do less leading up to that day. I also have friends who understand my situation and are willing to go out earlier rather than later. I know I still miss out on a lot of the night life, but to have the opportunity to be out there at all is better than nothing. My point is to be grateful you can go out and enjoy yourself in the moment.

Hi Welcome to HW it is a great place for info and help. I know I have had a few days when a crutch has made a big difference for me. Lately my shoulders and hands are bothering me and your right it is hard to get up I find I don't have a good supply of body strength right now . Hoping this will work it's way out though. lol gail
