It's so good to hear that others have this problem too.  I know it's feces that causes it but why can't we get ourselves clean?  No matter how much I wipe or what I use, about 1/2 hour after a normal bm I have to go and clean myself again because I start itching and there isn't just a little stool.  It's usually a whole lot.  Is it because our rectum doesn't work right or because of surgery.  I didn't have this problem before my resection. But then my stools were always "d".  I don't think I have peri-anal Crohn's. 

When I mentioned it to my GI he kind of blew it off.  Said it was probably from having children and to do Kagle(sp?) exercises.

Well... I've never had surgery (no kids, either).... and I have that problem, too...



To be honest, I always thought it was the hemmorroids that was making me itch so much... *I honestly don't know what to think about the... err... bit of leakage going on and whatnot... Always thought maybe I never wipe well enough or something (not for lack of trying... just... ehh... I guess I just have a tendency to brush things off*


Wish I had some answers for ya... but now you're making me wonder, too... *lol*

That is a ridiculous statement for your GI to make...your itching could be the onset of fissures possibly, or you may be more sensitive in that area so even just the smallest bit can be irritating/itching you.

Have you tried using wet-wipes to get the area completely clean? That may really help you...I know with my perianal skin tags I've been often told to keep it very clean because if not it can cause extra issues of itching which could lead to more taga appearing (the friction apparently can cause this to happen) I was even told to do sitz baths after each BM, that's not always easy to do, so I take extra time to make sure it's clean there.

You just confirmed the 30-minute rule for me!! I have 2 peri-rectal fistulas with setons. After each BM, it takes about 30 minutes for the "stuff" in the fistula to empty out. I hose the whole area down in shower. Then the area remains clean -- until the next round. My gripe is this means a delay in getting out the door in the morning. A small complaint compared to what you others face daily with frequent D, but I'll complain anyway!!

One thing that helps me is to keep two squares of toilet paper folded in the crack between my buttocks. I know some people here use gauze, but I find t.p. easier and cheaper. The t.p. catches anything that oozes out, before it gets on the skin and starts causing irritation.

I too have the itching as well, but I do find some relief after wiping and cleaning, I put Zinc cream on a tissue and put it on the area.  Using your fingers sting and makes it worse, also using the shower head to clean as well.  Zinc cream is used on babies butts, so it is safe and work to protect the next time you have a bm, especially if it is acidic.  Good luck

I have not experienced this yet, but know it's coming.  You guys are awesome to be able to discuss this so openly.   I have you find some comfort as it doesn't sound pleasant.

Zinc ointment is great for it. I hate having to use almost a half roll of toliet paper after going to the bathroom. The worst is after having a release of gas....and some stool comes out when you are away from the toliet. I have found that if I use thin sanitary pads it is great.

Sorry to hear your in discomfort. I too have the same leakage problem. Feels like after a bm that I did not finish, very uncomfortable.

Like Ivey, I use very soft toilet paper between my butt, helps alot. Also a little bit embarrassing to say well except for here, lol but I also use a pad, just in case the tp does not catch everything or I'm late to get to a bathroom.

Baby wipes is also nice, you can get a small travel pack to keep in your back pocket.

I have a cream for the itch and a nice bath at night helps sooth the itch.

"Cortifoam" helped alot but I just ran out and need a new script.
