Anyone here ever taken Methotrexate?

Unfortunately my Scleritis came back and I get to take prednisone and methotrexate.  I have heard some scary things about methotrexate and I was wondering if any one has taken it or is on it?

A lot of people here have taken it. Try a search and see what you get. I am on a sister med called Imuran (well the generic version) and I am glad I started taking it. Karen

Hey the RA thread has an active thread telling stories about peoples early experiences with MTX. There is a lot of good information in there. Oh, make sure you take folic acid and drink lots of water.
I am on week 8 of mtx and although I resisted as long as possible and then whined through the first several weeks I am now doing great-have no side effects (I did the first several weeks) and am very glad I take it. (I am tapering off pred for the first time in 7 months).

I take 25mg MTX orally and have done for two years now. The only complaint I have is hair loss (but that could be the pred too) otherwise all is good. Make sure you have blood tests every six weeks to check liver functions. I know the MTX helps my AS but not sure it goes much for my Crohns.

I am back on methotrexate and thankful for it every day. I have also taken every drug that is on the market for Crohn's, Ankylosying Spondylitis and Uveitis. There are good and bad in all drugs. Not everyone has a reaction to them. When a person has a reaction the doctor has to inform the drug company after a number of the same results (small number) the drug company has to report it. It may only be 2% of the poeple taking the drug that have reactions but they need to be reported and documented.

Ive taken Imuran several times, and had no adverse reactions and it worked pretty well. Im hoping to go back on it. Alot of docs are sceptics cuz it causes impaired immunity, but I only noticed runny noses! lol

Thanks everyone!  I feel a lot better hearing how the drug helps and is good!  I am hoping that once the prednisone clears up my eye that the MTX will keep the Scleritis from coming back!  I guess only time will tell.
