I just found out today that I have hypothyroidism. I have not met with my PCP about this yet, but was wondering if anyone else deals with this. Is this related to crohns as well? If you are dealing with this, what kind of medicines are you using?

If your hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's disease, then it is an autoimmune disease like Crohn's. When a person has one autoimmune disease, then they are more likely to have or develop others. Personally, I am at four autoimmune diseases so far.

I also have hypothyroidism and was told I had strongly positive thyroid antibodies which means Hashimoto's. My diagnosis of this problem was not too different than my IBD experience. I ended up being treated by a resident doctor willing to take a chance based on these antibodies. My lab tests were borderline. Now, many years later, there is a diagnsosis called "Subclinical Primary Hypothyroidism" which presents much the way mine did, with a borderline TSH

Hello - I was diagnosed when I was 12 with hypothyroidism and have been taking medication for it ever since. :) I also was dx with a goiter at that time but it has, thankfully, not grown at all since I've been on medication!

Well, now I got to thinking about Hashimoto's and wondering "what's the difference" and "all this time I've said I have a thyroid disease, but is it a condition or disease?"

Here are the symptoms I've attributed to (or blamed on!) hypothyroidism that I experience -- fatigue, extreme sensitivity to cold in my fingers, the bottom of my feet itch!, of course the goiter, hmm...that's about it. I had issues with my thyroid while I was pregnant and they had to monitor it closely. My mother, in her early 50's, also has hypothyroidism...she was dx and started taking medications while she was pregnant with me. She now has very bad osteoporosis and has very thin hair, which her doctors said was a result of the hypothyroidism.

I have hyperthyrodism, which accounts for many of the CD symptoms I was having after I had my resection and my CD was in remission. Once they found that out I started taking Methamazole and have been fine ever since (more than 1 year later)

Hi, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's three years after the Crohn's diagnosis.  The endocrinologist I saw was great. She said the same sort of thing - if you have one autoimmune disease, you might develop others, although of course she wasn't prepared to speculate on whether I'd get anymore!  I have felt a million times better since I went on thyroxine - my mood is improved, my concentration and sleep are improved, it's made a huge difference.  Before I was diagnosed i felt like the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz - "if only i had a brain"!

I have had thyroid problems for years. Memorial day i woke up and could not move. my entire body hurt! Hair falling out, chest pain, hands and feet tingle and throb and I am soooo tired...In 2009 Dr said I also have crohns after a colonoscopy then he did blood work and said, and I quote..."I say you have crohns and I say you do not have crohns! I am not sure? ***? I have been having crohns problems for month now. Had blood work done and it says that I am anemic and vitamin b12 deficient. What is going on? Can someone shed some light on this?

I am also BipolarII and have come off my meds to see if this can be staightened out... The rage I feel towards the people who have a license to steal is about to drive me to the nut house!!! Is there anyone else out there has has been having these problems? Thanks for your responses.....  cry
