I have recently had a lot of problems with my eyes ...the only real dx I have been given is base membrane dystrophy ...

I have not found any internet sources that link this to CD ...

Does anyone else have this ? or know much about it ?

I would like to be armed when I got to my GP ..or find an optomologist who knows CD ...

Oh by the way - I was put on Restasis ...and a steroid ...they both helped ( maybe the steroid more ) but I cannot stay on the REstasis ...it is sooooo expensive !!

there is no way ...

So, now with otc drops again ..my eyes seem to be getting redder again ...

any help would be appreciated

Contact the makers of Restasis and see if they have a financial assistence program-this stuff works differently than the steroid drops and if you need to be on it then you need to be on it if at all possible.
Sorry I know nothing about this condition but I would definetly want a very good opthamologist treating me.

Immediately after I had surgery for a cataract in my left eye, I noticed some pain in my eye. Cataract surgery is painless --this was unexpected and the surgeon said this would disappear. It didn't and I've been living with it for a few years now--- many times hardly noticeable. After a visit to an opthamologist he gave it the name BMD and said there was no connection to Crohn's disease nor was he willing to cite any connection to the eye surgery. (It almost defies logic!) He said it was a benign condition. And told me to keep my eye lubricated. It's not nearly as troublesome now as it was initially.
Is there anything you can connect you eye problems to?

no connections with eye problems any where else ... I have more problems than anyone I know .. I can't help but feel its connected to the crohns ..but no one out there to say that yet ...

but even if they do ...so what huh ? Im still stuck with the problem - and it can get pretty serious from what I have read and heard - they are so red right now ... I practically have to un peel my eyes in the morning -

I am going to see a cataract specialist who works in my building - he is doing it as a favor to me - excellent doctor ; however he is not going to treat me ; but my supervisor saw my eyes and talked to him about seeing me again - he is the one who put me on the Restasis -

they are going to try some kind of pellet that goes in and produces tears all day ...at least that is what they said on the phone ...I'll see him at 2:30

I'll post after I see him

I had different symptoms from the ones you described. What I felt was constant painful irritation and tenderness---my eye was never red or stuck. It sounds like two different conditions!

My doctor said what I had was not an inflammatory condition. It sounds like your condition is---otherwise why use a steroid? This is pretty confusing.

It troubled me for a couple of years and then subsided for the most part. But I wouldn't be surprised if it returns.

I hope you get some help from the cataract specialist.

MoonD he is really doing me a favor by seeing me ... yesterday they gave me these pellet type things that I insert in the lower area of my lid ...and they are supposed to produce tears all day ...they say I am NO LONGER going to produce tears with out meds ...

but , today I am feeling pretty bad...they are just as red and burning ..my vision seems blurred and cloudy ...
so we'll see...he wants to see me again if this doesn't work ...his wife just came to see me ..they are super people - she is going to relay to him what is happening and will take it from there ...
