Kidney Stones again.....

Went for the results of my 24 hour urine on Tuesday, since I had eswl in Feb of this year, my urologist wanted to make sure there was no fragments left from that procedure, that stone was 9-10mm in size. The x-ray after that eswl in feb came up clean no more stones in the left kidney, 1 in the right one though.

Ok, at the docs office he came in and told me based on the x-ray i had earlier on tuesday, it said I had 3 stones, one 6-7 mm in the left kidney and 2 in my right one. He didn't say how big the ones in the right one were, but he wants to do an eswl on the 6-7 mm stone.

My question is, can they form that fast? To grow a 6-7 mm stone in 4 months seems kind of extreme to me. Has anybody had that happen to them before? Is it possible that the fragments stuck back together again? I hate these things. I've had 7 form with a year, something is up. uggg....

They can grow that fast. I have had a kidney stone blockage , passed it , had a clear mri, ( I have uric acid stones and they dont show well in X ray), and then have a blockage the next month. I was passing one per month for a long time. Had a med change to get back on allopurinal and that has help a great deal. What type of stones do you have?

I have a niece who is continually throwing out stones. I mean almost weekly. Hers are caused by uric acid. Does that med your taking Sniper help those kinds of stones? She has been diagnosed with Diverticulitis (I sometimes wonder if its really UC or Crohns)

wow sniper, I didn't realize they can grow that fast.

Mine are calcium oxalate, the past year has been bad. Kidney stones are not new to me, I've had I think 5 eswl's 3 basket removals, and most of them have passed on their own. It just seems this past year has been an excessive amount for me. All they told me was to drink more water, which I know I need to drink more.

I think the cd has something to do with it, personally.

i hate them..but they are interesting to look at when they finally come out. Trade them with your friends, etc,etc. Pop used to be my problem, once i quit pop never had them since.

Kidney stones can grow and you dont even know it, til one day boom, I had 4 kidney stones, 2 in each kidney and they were all but one 9mm!!! I had lithotripsy 3 times, and omg was I so sick I think my intestines paralized. The Urologist didnt even know I had crohns. The are formed for a number of reasons, calcium intake, Uric acid as Nanners mentioned and believe it or not calcium from your tap and mixing green tea, they bond and form calcium oxylate, my daughter who is a chemistry major told me that. So I got a Reverse osmisis tap water put in and try to drink bottled ro water as well. Also they are hereditary, my older brother who has Colitis, gets stones too. When you have had a resection, your intestines are not able to absorb fats and calcium and turn into stones. I have had 2 resections, and I drink a lot of water, even when I am not thirsty. Hot weather is here and need to drink more. If your urnine is dark yellow your not drinking enough. You can also pinch the skin back of your hand pull it up and if it goes down slow, you are dehydrating. Hope this helps, good luck.

Nanners, I have had calcium stones also but mostly I have uric acid stones. I was taken off allopurinal when I was put on Imuran. You cant take them together. I started passing the uric acid stones one or two per month. Finally told doc enough is enough and was taken off Imuran , put on Methotrexate and back on allopurinal. So far so good. It helps with the uric acid levels. I also watch what I eat. Some things are high in purines,( a major cause of high uric acid levels) turkey, liver, sweet peas, gravy,,,its a long list. I try to avoid them but being Diabetic adds to the , what can I eat equation, thus the med. I think my diet is pretty simple . If it taste good, spit it out, I cant have it. Now sticking to this diet, thats the hard part. And yes drinking lots of water is a help, but even drinking so much water that my eyes were floating did not save me from the ER visits.
