I have had Crohn's since I was 17, now I am age 26...ever since I was diagnosed I have had one main complaint-->everytime I eat or drink something, I would be straight to the bathroom..sometimes totaling 27 times a day at my worst, this included getting up in the middle of the night too<-- buuuut, lately my Crohns' appears to be in remission and I am having the opposite problem...I will sometimes go a week to ten days without having a bowl movement...this cannot be good...I feel bloated ALL THE TIME...and I can't stand to eat anything more to add to the problem...has anyone else out there had this issue?

First off welcome to Healingwell. There are alot of great people here. I suffer with C alot and take stool softners nightly to keep things moving. They work great for me.

Yes, absolutely take stool softeners. I can't say I have every gone frequent, most being 5 times in a day. I take an Iron Supplement, so to combat that stopping me up I take a stool softener, like Dulcolax or something. I take the iron and stool softener at dinner. I go once a day. Before the stool softener, I wouldn't go for days.

thank you for the warm welcome...
I have tried to take stool softeners, but they usually dont work...I am really picky with what I eat cause I am paranoid it will give me issues, so most of what I consume is fruit and veggies, salads...and to snack I eat chips and queso---not good Im sure...after seeing this as a problem for quite some time my GI suggested that I take a light laxative only in worst case scenerios...and sometimes those dont even help...Im so fed up with this feeling, Ive been assured that there isnt a bowel obstruction of any kind...I am hoping there is some other kind of method I can try before being scoped again...

Could be a sign of bowel (partial) obstruction. Do you have a stricture in your bowel?

MY GI told me to take fibre supplements daily as I had issues with D and C, this has helped tremendously with that issue as well as no more bloating or excessive gas and I can even tolerate eating fibreous foods with no gas or bloating or any other issues...he told me to take it daily for the rest of my life (it's been 5yrs now straight and it's been very helpful for my crohn's and IBS).

My GI has me use Mirlax when C. Start off with a half dose every other day. if that doesn't work go to a full dose every other day, etc until you find what keeps you regular. Also on hyoscyamine as needed for the pain and bloating.

I've had good luck with probiotics (acidophiilus, lactobacillus, etc.), but I recently was given a fiber supplement called Fibromin, and that was the best. Unfortunately, it seems to be a hard to find supplement. Still working on that one. On a cheaper and more natural note, I find that oatmeal is easy to digest, and helps keep me regular now that I am on Humira, and have the D only rarely. Good luck with things.
